Why is everyone so afraid of the mandates dropping ? If you still want to wear your mask, go ahead ! if you want to social distance, be my guest ! Nothing else will change except the fact that we will be free to choose if we want to wear a mask, social distance, and get vaccinated. People were wearing masks before this pandemic.

Marcel Belanger
Reply to @Julie Robichaud: we are not afraid of those measures being stopped when the science and healthcare communities say they can. You want them dropped just because you don’t trust those communities and you don’t like what they are advising our governments to do. That’s why you are your buddies harass nurses going to work and throw rocks at them. Get your shots and you can join the majority of Canadians who’ve done the right thing and are moving this crisis in a direction that will end all those mandates. YES that’s right, the mandates will end because of a high vaccination level in the population NO they won’t end because of a gang of seditious crybabies.

Joe Vert
Reply to @Marcel Belanger: so what qualifies as a fully vaccinated person to you??? What are you going to do when less ppl show up for the third shot??? I know a few ppl that are not getting a third shot, what do you say to them???

Julie Robichaud
Reply to @Marcel Belanger: 1 shot.. 2 shot.. booster... 75%.. 80%.. 90%.. 100% ... IT WONT END ! If you failed to see that, you never will. it is proven that masks dont work, and lockdowns either. Do you know how many people commited suicide because of this ? Or how many families were broken ? How about how many kids went without love and food, because they only get that in school.. I'd much rather save 5 kids, than 5 seniors over 80 years old.. i said it.

Art McCarthy
Reply to @Julie Robichaud:
This is akin to walking on a frozen lake. We don't know how thick is the ice so we don't know if it is safe. And it's a community on the ice; if it fails it takes a number of people down. If it were just you I'd say fill 'yer boots.

Marcel Belanger
Reply to @Joe Vert: Again, back at you, what qualifies as a fully vaccinated person to you. I don’t really care about your answer anyways. Your just part of the problem .

Art McCarthy
Reply to @Julie Robichaud:
All things end; even your angst regarding public health measures.

Julie Robichaud
Reply to @Art McCarthy: a great foundation would hold that whole community.. which is why the unvaccinated are not the problem, the leaders are. our hospitals have been on the verge of collapsing for the past 20 years, but now they get to blame the unvaccinated for it.

Marcel Belanger
Reply to @Julie Robichaud: I wish you were kidding bit obviously you take your misguided beliefs seriously no matter how far out there they are. BTW are you volunteering in schools and social groups that want to help those children, you know, in the same way your helping those protesters for which you spend all that money going to Ottawa. Or do you just find those suffering children convenient when you need them to bolster your story.

So open everything up if you want, that in no way means we're all going to the rodeo.

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @John Lake: Absolutely not. Keep it at level 2 till spring. Introduce more stringent vaccine passport requirements until then to keep spread and hospitalization down. Implement a new provincial requirement for all licenses issued by the province making proof of vaccination a requirement to obtain a license. A license is not a right nor a freedom. It is a privilidge.

Dave Ladd
Reply to @JOhn D Bond: Wow. a true totalitarian you are . Good thing you are in the vast minority. Only a tyrant would impose segregation. How about you stay home if you are scared, thanks.

John Lake
Reply to @Thomas Hall: I'm not suggesting that at all, but if you can prove different outcomes with or without all these restrictions please tell me

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @Ian Douglas Gill: Laughable only taking part of the statement from Tam to heart, so typical.

John Lake
Reply to @JOhn D Bond: please tell me how these silly numbered levels have or will make any difference for another month and a half until your magical spring date rolls around

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @Dave Ladd: I would be extremely happy to have the federal government hold a plebiscites on this issue, put the issue to rest once and for all. It is tiresome when a fringe minority of the country seem to think they are speaking for a majority. But even if that happened, the Anti crowd would not accept it as they think they don't have any responsibility for anything but themselves.

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @John Lake: As the weather warms, people migrate outside. Just like in the fall when the weather cools people move inside. Much safer for all when outdoors than indoors. Just look at the stats. It is not magical. Also by then we can get the booster rate up. Funny how those wanting to eliminate the restrictions conveniently ignore the difference in these booster rates in Europe compared to hear or what Tam had to say on that but of course you all like to quote one part of the message not the entire message.

Ian Douglas Gill
Reply to @JOhn D Bond: you sound rattled at the fact that the restrictions are loosening and life is going to go back to normal. Accept it and move on! Tam said 2 shots do nothing against Omicron. A booster gives some protection, but it only lasts for a short period. why do you think Pfizer are developing an omicron vax? Because the existing one isn't effective - hence the massive uptick in cases in the vaccinated. How many times do you want to ignore these facts? You've been a staunch believer that we should be in lockdown forever, that's been clear for ages, but now that things are changing against what you want, you are irritated. Typical. But good news is... you can still stay home, don't go out, don't socialize, stay at home and mix only with your preferred 10 - you are free do do these things without being told to. Independent thinking 101.

Ian Douglas Gill
Reply to @John Lake: they won't. there is a certain group on this forum who have their knickers in a twist because they realize the country, world, and provinces are starting to open up.

John Lake
Reply to @JOhn D Bond: I'm not comparing anything to Europe, it's just time to get on with life, simple as that no long drawn out explanations.

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @John Lake: Then by all means continue to ignore science, what our own health experts are saying and keep your head buried in the sand. Just no the restrictions will not end this week or the coming week or even in Feb, Just won't happen

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @Ian Douglas Gill: Again with the Denier spin. Not the complete statement. It is almost funny the nonsense that gets posted by the Denier crowd, on the same level as the rubbish coming from the illegal blockage by a group of umm misguided people.
But not rattled, tired perhaps. But then I don't have to deal with the vast majority of the restrictions. Being vaccinated makes them for the most part go away. Do the right thing and get vaccinated.

John Lake
Reply to @JOhn D Bond: I've done everything asked for two years just like most people but enough is enough, the science has flip flopped so much that all we do is look at the dashboard, listen to all the press conferences that change every time. Get on with life.

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @John Lake: If you have done everything asked for ,but fail to realize that Omicron created a new ball game, that as the virus mutates it changes and protocols implemented to protect the population also require change. That we are closer to getting back to some form of normal than we have been for a long time. That to help us get there and beyond, the importance of getting boosted and significantly increasing that rate in the population is critical and that for 45-60 days of patience, you are willing to throw it all away.
The media, be that MSM or alternative sources have one thing in common. Readership and clicks which generate $. Public health officials sadly have political masters that will play politics and claim it is a balancing act.
My perspective, pay attention to what the Science is saying about the vaccinations, ignore the sensationalized stories in the media and give it some time.

Reply to @JOhn D Bond: there could be one, two, or several more mutations, you don't know, nobody knows, so this so called 45-60 days of patience turns into months and then another year with continuous restrictions and lock downs, like I said enough is enough

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @John Lake: With that statement are you really suggesting that to heck with the consequences. That if another mutation that evades all vaccinations, all of the mitigation strategies to hold this at bay comes on the scene, simply ignore it and let everyone carryon as if it doesn't exist? You realize that would never be allowed to happen. Governments would be legally obligated to take steps to mitigate the spread. I would ask, if you believe these restrictions and vaccines have helped us in Canada have a much lower death rate than most other countries or are they all simply ineffective and a waste of time?

Michael Cain
Reply to @Ian Douglas Gill: the good news is you forgot the best part of what Dr. Tam said: Tam said it's now clear that the primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine — the first two shots of an mRNA vaccine or a viral vector product like the AstraZeneca vaccine — do not protect against an Omicron infection.

But these shots still offer "reasonably good protection" against severe outcomes like hospitalization and death. A third shot provides "superior protection," dramatically reducing the likelihood of severe outcomes, she said. A third dose might also help to prevent an actual infection, Tam added

Dave Peters
Reply to @Michael Cain: Same old story. Nothing changes. She also said we can not continue to live in fear of this virus, and Public Health's approach has to change.

Michael Cain
Reply to @Dave Peters: and it will once we get some more boosters and numbers go down

Dave Peters
Reply to @Michael Cain: Yada, yada, yada. Vaccines, vaccines, vaccines. This is exactly why we are in the situation we are in today. Wake up.

Reply to @Norman Albert Snr: Do you know how many of the folks who died had followed Teddy's lock-down orders and partaken of Higgy's dubious COVID-19 vaccines or passed because of other causes while merely showing a positive in the questionable test for the presence of the virus?

I'm doing my part by being locked down for three years....

Anthony Gracey
Reply to @Neil Murphy: doing your part would actually be taking three doses of the safe and highly effective vaccines. When the majority are boosted, we will say goodbye to public health restrictions.

David Amos
Reply to @Neil Murphy: Me too

Neil Murphy
Reply to @Anthony Gracey: Didn't they originally say " all restrictions would be lifted when over 75% get a two dose vax" ? and then they said 75% wasn't good enough and that we now need to vax the children and give a booster.

One thing we can all agree on is the death rate is quite disturbing

Neil Murphy
Reply to @Marc LeBlanc: More disturbing is knowing we all die

SarahRose Werner
Reply to @Marc LeBlanc: I'm not sure that disturbing is the word I would use. I'd say more like regrettable. I'd be "disturbed" if we didn't know why people were dying, but we do. Certainly the number of deaths is low even compared to the number of known cases - which is quite likely less than the number of actual cases. The other thing to keep in mind re: deaths is that they tend to lag hospitalizations, which in turn lag cases. We could be seeing the worst of the deaths right now

David Amos
Reply to @Neil Murphy: Even more disturbing is how much taxes we pay supporting this nonsense until we do give up the ghost

"Hospital occupancy is listed at 89 per cent, while the ICU occupancy is at 68 per cent. "
We are coming out of this folks. Lets move to Level 1 and start talking about building a healthcare system. The one we had is the one we still have, operating in crisis not a new story.

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @Dave Corbin: Sadly we are not ready for level 1. At a minimum we need to significantly increase the % of the population with the booster shots. That is the primary driver in the European countries that are moving to relax the restrictions. Level 2 is fine for now.

SarahRose Werner
Reply to @Dave Corbin: Agreed. To break down the figures a bit, 3% of our hospitals beds are occupied by patients who are there for COVID. 4% are occupied by patients with COVID who are there for other reasons, and 82% are occupied by patients who don't have COVID. 11% of our ICU beds are occupied by people who are there for COVID. 1% - one bed - is occupied by a patient who's there for other reasons and has COVID, and 56% are occupied by patients who don't have COVID. COVID is the straw on the camel's back.

Nathan Patriquen
Reply to @Dave Corbin: Agreed. Level 1 and fix the broken system.

SarahRose Werner
Reply to @Nathan Patriquen: Might I suggest Level 1 to start with, but not to stop with? Moving to Level 1 should be the start of a process that leads to the end of the "winter plan," the end of the state of emergency instated in September 2021 and the repeal of the vaccine and mask mandates added to the Public Health regulations in September 2021. As far as I'm concerned, it's not over until both mandates are gone.

Reply to @Dave Corbin: Dream on

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @SarahRose Werner: Level 2 till early spring, level 1 for 4 weeks then rescind the emergency order.

Samuel Clemens
Reply to @Dave Corbin: Those occupancy rates are actually lower than pre-pandemic. Typically, for budgetary and fiscal reasons, you want your occupancy rate over 90%. If not, you're paying for nurses to sit around...

It appears as though the Higgs Government is allowing COVID to relieve it of it's responsibilities to it's seniors. Six deaths a day and sitting at level two can only mean one thing and that will not work well for those over 70.

Rusty Shackleford
Reply to @Norman Albert Snr: what an incredibly stupid thing to say.

Reply to @Norman Albert Snr: It's turning into an agist /ableist-fuelled race to the Level 1 Finish Line ... while inch by inch, day by day further sanitizing the extreme toll this is taking on our most vulnerable. Whatever happened to the "We're in it together" motto/mantra so oft-repeated over the first few waves?

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @Norman Albert Snr: Excuse me if I suggest you are exaggerating with the intent and the numbers both miss the boat.
The numbers don't add up using your number and certainly the government is not abandoning anyone by moving to level 2. The are trying to balance for all.

Reply to @Rusty Shackleford: The truth is out there. The evidence is hard to ignore. Do you know what expendable means. Do you have evidence to the contrary? There are none so blind as they who will not see. Past 70 you are seen as a drag on finances without providing worth or value to the system. Not my idea BTW.

Thomas Hall
Reply to @Norman Albert Snr: It really appears to be an effort to end the age demographic imbalance. Does anyone see Higgs shedding tears over these folks? Adopting preventive measures to keep them safe and the spread low?
