Video footage has captured the moment a gunman open fires from the roof of a building near Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania.
The FBI said it was treating the incident as an assassination attempt.
It has identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks - he was shot and killed by the Secret Service.
One bystander was killed in the shooting and two others were critically injured, police said.
Republican representative and former sniper Cory Mills identifies security failures at former President Donald Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania that led to Saturday evening's shooting.

One of the bullets struck Trump in the ear causing him to quickly take cover behind the podium. Within 3 seconds the first line of secret service defense jumped into the line of fire, creating a shield around him with their bodies.
At 6:15 pm on July 13th 2024 Six minutes into his speech shots rang out causing Trump to grab his right ear after being struck by a bullet. He then quickly took cover behind the podium. Within 3 seconds the first line of defense, the Secret Service Presidential Protective Division, instantly swarmed, creating a shield around him with their bodies moving directly into the line of fire.

Donald Trump SURVIVED the assassination attempt yesterday but now we need to figure out who was really behind it and if it is the deep state...we need to buckle up because they are just getting warmed up.
The 20-year-old male who shot at former US president Donald Trump during a Pennsylvania rally is alleged to be Thomas Matthew Crooks, according to The New York Post.
However, US authorities have not confirmed the shooter’s identity but claim they are close to determining who the person was.
An image has now surfaced showing US authorities standing over what is believed to be the corpse of the shooter.
The BBC has interviewed a witness who was in attendance at Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally where a shooting took place.
Following reports of shots heard at Mr Trump’s rally, the former president was assisted off stage, appearing to be injured with blood on his face from a near-miss bullet.
“There’s the guy crawling ... up the roof of the building beside us, 50 feet away from us,” the witness told the BBC.
“He had a rifle; you could clearly see him with a rifle.”
The man questioned why Mr Trump wasn’t pulled off the stage after the suspected gunman could be seen from the building.

Local officer retreated from shooter at Trump rally before shots were fired

A local law enforcement officer reportedly encountered the shooter who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump before he started shooting.
Officials who spoke
to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity claimed a local
officer had climbed up to the roof where Thomas Matthew Crooks was lying
with his rifle after local law enforcement was tipped off by bystanders
about a man climbing onto the roof of a nearby building.
The
officer reportedly retreated from the rooftop after Crooks pointed his
firearm at the unidentified officer. Moments later, Crooks took shots at
Trump, and he was injured after being grazed on his ear. A rally
attendee, Corey Comperatore, was also killed during the shooting.
During a press conference following the shooting, Kevin Rojek, special agent in charge of the FBI Pittsburgh office, said he found it “surprising” that Crooks was able to fire multiple shots.
Scrutiny
into the Secret Services’s and law enforcement’s security at the
Pennsylvania rally is increasing amid concerns that the gunman was able
to access the rooftop under 150 yards from Trump’s podium.
Ex-Secret Service agent Dan Bongino said Sunday morning that he believed the agency’s director should be fired for the alarming security breach.
“[Secret
Service agents] are trained out to 1,000 yards in the Secret Service
with the counter-sniper team. How did they miss someone at most
one-fifth of the way there? It doesn’t make any sense. And even worse,
it’s broad daylight on a white roof,” Bogino worried during an interview
with Fox News.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson
has called for an investigation into Saturday evening's events and
President Joe Biden has ordered an independent investigation into the
matter.
