Erin M. K. Weir, MP is the Canadian Member of Parliament for the
riding of Regina—Lewvan. Previously an economist with the United
Steelworkers union's Canadian National Office,[1] Weir was elected in
the 2015 federal election, defeating Conservative Trent Fraser and
Liberal Louis Browne. He is a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP)
and the party's critic for Public Services and Procurement Canada.
Weir has been a frequent guest on the Business News Network and other
TV channels. He has also been a member (and former Chair) of the
Progressive Economics Forum, an organization of 125 progressive
economists who comment on matters of public policy.[2] In the 2004
federal election, Weir was the NDP candidate in the riding of
Wascana[3] challenging the Liberal incumbent, then Finance Minister
Ralph Goodale. Weir also ran for the Leadership of the Saskatchewan
NDP in 2012
