Work for yourself? Canada has fewer and fewer people like you — and here's why
Self-employment dropped to its lowest level in more than a decade during the pandemic
Self-employment in Canada had been growing steadily for several years, but over the course of the pandemic, it fell to its lowest level in more than a decade. There were nearly 2.9 million self-employed Canadians in February 2020. Now, there are just over 2.6 million.
Some of the losses in self-employment have been made up by gains in paid employment in the same industries, according to Statistics Canada. Those include professional, scientific and technical services.
But in other industries, such as agriculture, construction and services, including personal care, declines in self-employment haven't been offset.
Richard Dias, founder and head of research at Acorn Macro Consulting in Halifax, blames the drop on government pandemic policies that weren't tailored to support the success of Canada's self-employed. These policies include blanket business closures and capacity restrictions, complicated applications for financial support and PPE requirements.
"It favoured giant corporates, who obviously are structured much, much better to navigate difficult situations … versus the humble shopkeeper," said Dias.
Statistics Canada breaks self-employment into several categories, including people who own an incorporated or unincorporated business, farm or professional practice, or those without a business, such as newspaper carriers or babysitters. Most self-employed Canadians are a business-of-one, but about one-third employ other people.
Dias is also worried about those self-employed Canadians who stretched themselves financially to survive the pandemic.
"After doing all the right things, they burned through their savings," he said. "There's no recognition, frankly, of that profound systemic error and the prolonged impacts that it's going to have on our economy."
Business on the brink
Michelle Palmer has been self-employed for eight years, but the owner of Pause Beauty Boutique in Toronto said the pandemic has made her question it.
"I've encountered the idea and the thought of closure so many times in the last two years, I can't even count," said Palmer.
She was forced to close her spa business for 10 months out of the past two years because of public health lockdowns. Despite applying for all the financial help she could, she reopened her doors deep in debt.
"Our debt load is in the six figures right now, and that's not going to go away overnight."
Falling through the cracks
Some self-employed Canadians fell through the cracks of government support programs, according to Dan Kelly, the president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
"I've talked to thousands of self-employed people who really got almost no support through the COVID emergency," said Kelly.
He says many of them didn't qualify for programs that their large or medium-sized counterparts did. For example, the Canada Emergency Business Account provided interest-free loans of $40,000, but initially, applicants had to show they had an annual payroll of at least $50,000 in 2019 to access it.
Self-employed workers were eligible to apply for the Canada emergency response benefit (CERB) and its replacement, the Canada recovery benefit (CRB), but Kelly argues the income support was not enough to keep a business going.
Palmer says she was cut off from the personal support programs this year because her 2020 taxes showed she didn't make the required $5,000 to be eligible for CERB or CRB. That's because she is a sole proprietor, which means that her business and personal taxes are filed together, and because of the closures, Palmer's business operated at a loss.
- COVID-19 could shutter more than 200,000 Canadian businesses, CFIB says
- Ottawa tables legislation to begin 'last step' of Canada's COVID-19 support
"The message that we've sent to entrepreneurs over the last two years has been a pretty negative one," said Kelly.
The CFIB expects a wave of business closures in 2022 as the federal pandemic support programs wind down.
"I think many business owners will not see a pathway back to profitability," said Kelly.
Potential new cohort of entrepreneurs
But a new wave of self-employment could be on the horizon. According to a recent survey, 30 per cent of "traditionally employed" Canadians expect to transition to self-employment in the next two years.
The online survey of 3,000 people who work full-time was conducted in August and September of 2021 by data company Dynata for cloud accounting firm Freshbooks. The survey results were balanced against Statistics Canada data on age, gender and industry.
Such a shift to self-employment would be welcome news to the CFIB's Kelly, who wants to see the group of self-employed Canadians grow — not shrink.
"They are the group that we're counting on to replace many of the businesses that are now boarded up," he said. "We're also counting on them to create jobs for other Canadians."
Seeking out job security
In the professional, science and technical fields, the trend may be headed in the opposite direction: toward salaried positions, which increased by close to 22 per cent between November 2019 and November 2021. Statistics Canada suggests the rise is a sign a pandemic-related shift to more standard forms of employment may be underway.
Many of those newly hired employees likely want the stability of a salaried position, according to Scotiabank deputy chief economist Brett House.
"It's not a sign that Canadians are becoming less entrepreneurial. It is a sign that the labour market recovery is continuing and getting firmer," said House.
Shannon Mulligan, with her two young children, has traded freelancing for a full-time role with a growing tech company. (Tina Mackenzie/CBC)
Copywriter Shannon Mulligan is among that crowd. While freelancing was a lifeline during the pandemic, a position with a tech start-up in Toronto recently won her over.
"Moving from freelance to full-time was not something I was really ready to do, but… it was just an overwhelmingly exciting opportunity," said Mulligan.
Her new job comes with the flexibility of working from home, something that was more common for freelancers than paid employees pre-pandemic.
"Being able to have that still helped seal the deal for me," said Mulligan.
Sticking with self-employment
But others aren't ready to give up their self-employment status just yet.
Despite having thoughts of walking away from Pause Beauty Boutique, Palmer says she hasn't followed through with it yet because she still loves it despite the stress and the financial cost.
"[Working for myself] is the most empowering thing I've ever done … and I am not willing to give that up lightly."

Federal government expands lockdown supports to people, businesses affected by capacity limits
Finance minister wouldn't confirm when one-time payments for seniors who had GIS clawed back would be coming
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the measures in a news conference Wednesday, in which he appeared virtually. Trudeau said he was following local public health advice after six members of his staff and security detail tested positive for COVID-19.
"For the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit and the Local Lockdown Program, you'll be able to apply if you're subject to capacity limiting restrictions," Trudeau said.
Capacity restrictions are part of new measures imposed recently in several provinces in response to rapidly rising COVID-19 infections. Ontario and Quebec have been particularly hard-hit by the latest wave of the pandemic, with the latter hitting a record new case count Wednesday with 6,361.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland explained that the government would be changing what they considered to be a "lockdown," widening the eligibility for businesses and employees.
Employees in regions where governments have introduced capacity restrictions of 50 per cent or more will now be eligible for the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit, if they've lost more than half their income.
It means more Canadians are now able to take advantage of the $300-per-week program.
Similarly, employers who are subject to capacity restrictions of 50 per cent or more and face current-month declines in revenue of at least 25 per cent can apply for the Local Lockdown Program, which grants wage subsidies from 25-75 per cent depending on revenue loss.
The expanded eligibility is expected to cost $4 billion, the government said in a release. The new regulations will apply retroactively to Dec. 19 and last until Feb. 12, 2022.
WATCH | Trudeau announces expanded supports for more businesses, employees:
The changes announced today are to programs that were enabled by the passage of Bill C-2, which received royal assent last week. But until now, no one had been eligible for the benefits because a full lockdown had not been declared in any part of the country.
Dan Kelly, president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses, responded quickly on Twitter, calling the changes "good news [and] a direct recommendation from CFIB."
Kelly noted, in particular, the shift to a revenue decline of 25 per cent, noting "The bar remains high, but this is a significant improvement."

Concerns over GIS payment timing
In the fiscal update delivered earlier this month, the Liberals announced a one-time payment for seniors who had their GIS or Allowance payments clawed back because they received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit or the Canada Recovery Benefit.
The government committed almost $742 million to that effort in the fiscal update. The update said the money is accounted for in the 2022-23 financial year.
The NDP told CBC News that they had concerns the payments to vulnerable seniors would not start flowing to seniors until the next fiscal year began.
The NDP said that some seniors were worried they were not going to receive their payments until May, causing them significant financial issues in the meantime.
Pressed to clarify the timing of the payments, Freeland did not give a firm timeline, saying her government remains committed to solving the issue and were working as quickly as possible.
"I would like to assure seniors, though, that we're aware of their needs. Seniors who qualify for the GIS are among the most vulnerable people in Canada and we are working really hard to get this done as soon as possible," Freeland said.
Freeland also said there were some technical challenges with organizing the payment.
The NDP accused the Liberals of adding to seniors' stress as they try to pay bills during the holidays.
"They created this situation for low-income seniors by essentially punishing them for taking the pandemic support they really needed. The very least they can do is be clear about when they're going to fix it," said Rachel Blaney, the party's critic for seniors said in a statement.
Uncertain holiday planning
Members of the government sought Wednesday to convey a message that Freeland described as one "which is careful, which is prudent, which is focused on following the science."
Ministers present at the news conference were asked several times to react to a speech made by U.S. President Joe Biden yesterday, in which he said it was alright for Americans to keep their holiday plans — if they're vaccinated.
Freeland responded by saying "Canada is not the United States."
She noted this country's higher vaccination rate, and lower mortality rate during the duration of the pandemic.

Activist jailed for giving legal advice forms new legal watchdog group
Vaughn Barnett promises to be more careful when helping people with legal issues now
· CBC News · Posted: Jul 17, 2020 6:00 AM AT
Vaughn Barnett said he will continue to help people in the legal system in an activist role through his new group, Legal Administration Watchdogs. (Jacques Poitras/CBC)
Legal gadfly Vaughn Barnett is back, promising to stay on the right side of the justice system this time--while openly acknowledging he may land himself in legal trouble again.
The Fredericton-area activist spent three weeks in jail earlier this year after a judge ruled he was doing the work of a lawyer without being licensed to practice law.
He and his supporters cast his actions as a fight for social justice on behalf of people who can't afford lawyers.
Barnett is still convinced he was in the right but says he'll be more cautious now working with a group he's established called Legal Administration Watchdogs, or LAW.
"I intend to shift the focus my activity that is more clearly of an activist nature, hence this group," he said.
"My position was and still is that I have never violated the injunction. Call it a difference of opinion about the legal interpretation, if not something worse, but that's my position. Having said that, I'm still going to try to abide by Chief Justice DeWare's opinion."
In February Court of Queen's Bench Chief Justice Tracey DeWare sentenced Barnett to 100 days in jail for new violations of a 2000 court injunction aimed at restricting him from working as an unlicensed lawyer.
Robert MacKay, a Moncton supporter of the new group, says Barnett is someone who doesn't fit in to conventional expectations but has a "certain chutzpah" about doing what he can to help people.
"He is trying to do the right thing and he's trying to do it within the parameters," he said.
The New Brunswick Law Society, the self-governing organization for lawyers in the province, sought the ruling.
Group focused on activism
Barnett says he knows the society will be watching his new group closely and he figures there's a chance they'll take him to court again."Probably, yes," he said.
"The law society might say that I'm still practising law because I'm still making legal arguments to help people," he said.
"My response is now that the people I'm helping are people in general. I'm not helping people so much in specific cases except using those cases to illustrate larger problems. So I'm engaging in the kind of activism that a lot of people would engage in."
Barnett's new group is made up of a half-dozen what he calls "very dedicated" activists who believe the justice system isn't fair and accessible to people who lack the means to hire lawyers.
"It's basically like a two-tier system," said Fredericton activist André Faust, who joined the group recently. "It's a rich person's game. … There are people who do not have the finances, or psychologically they're not at a level of comprehending this complex system."
But, in February, Richard said the society has a committee including Department of Justice and court officials that is working to improve access to justice. Someone like Barnett "has to respect the court order, the system that's in place," he said.
Lawyers licensed by the society are subject to a code of ethics and to disciplinary proceedings, and must carry liability insurance — requirements that the society says are in place to protect clients if something goes wrong.
Faust said existing systems to help people without lawyers, like the providing of duty counsel, meet the minimum constitutional requirement but often don't provide effective legal representation.
"That's basically a production line," he said. "Get them in, get them through and out."
Not a licensed lawyer
Fredericton activist André Faust said existing systems to help people without lawyers often don’t provide effective legal representation. (Ed Hunter/CBC)
In 2000 a judge ordered Barnett to stop doing legal work for clients. Barnett has a law degree but is not a member of the New Brunswick Law Society, which means he is not licensed to practice law.
In 2007 a Court of Queen's Bench judge added to the initial order by requiring Barnett add to any written reference he made to his law degree the disclaimer "not licensed to practice law" in type twice as large.
Earlier this year the law society took Barnett to court over two new cases.
In one, the society argued he referred to himself as a "legal researcher and advocate" for a woman suspended from her job, whom he called his "client." He asked her employer for the "legal justification" for her suspension.
In the second case, he tried to negotiate with the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board on behalf of a friend, calling himself her "legal advisor."
Barnett acknowledged in a January hearing he was "trying to walk a fine line" and argued if he crossed it, it was because of his "honest interpretation" of an ambiguous court order.
But DeWare called Barnett "an extremely intelligent man" who was "fully aware of the scope and nature of the court order in place." She sentenced him to 100 days in jail.
Three weeks into his sentence, he applied for a "temporary absence," a form of house arrest, and was released.
'More careful now'
One example of what Barnett and the new group will take on is what they say is the poor treatment of employees at a New Brunswick nursing home. Workers who complained got nowhere with the province, he said."There may be legal issues involved in our campaign, but surely we must have the right to hold agencies accountable for what we consider to be legal violations," he said.
He says much of what he does will be similar to what he did before, but with "a shift from case work to activism for general groups of people. … I'm still going to apply my legal skills in all of this, as I believe I have the right to do."
Barnett, who has not ruled out appealing DeWare's ruling, says he'll tell people he can't provide legal advice and will refer them to lawyers -- as he has always done, he said.
"Unfortunately not a whole lot can change because I don't feel I was breaching the injunction in the first place," he said. "I'm just going to be more careful now."

As the person being reported on here (Vaughn Barnett), I would like to make a couple of clarifications/corrections:
1) I was not using titles such as "legal researcher and advocate" (any longer) or "legal advisor" - and the friends I was assisting had no misunderstanding of my non-lawyer status;
2) The nursing home targeted by our group is York Care Centre, and the government agencies that failed to investigate its workplace abuses (bullying/discrimination, unfair workloads, retaliation) are the Employment Standards Branch and the Labour and Employment Board.

the cbc shows it's anti poverty activist bias by starting the article calling mr barnett "legal gadfly".. most provinces allow legal advice when it is not paid. the new brunswick law society is engaged in selective prosecution. many people with law degrees but who are not licenced to practice law work for pay for corporations or in government administrative law, and give their employers legal advice. this is clear persecution of the poor.

Sounds like the Law Society can't stand the competition. Poor people simply don't have the same access to the justice system as wealthier people, and the Law society is as blind as the scales of justice to the daily reality of preferential treatment for the wealthy and discrimination against the poor in the justice system. But then again, the Law Society's members are doing very well for themselves, thank you very much, with the existing system. Talk is cheap, so we can expect lots more talk about 'fixing the system,' but don't hold your breath waiting for the folks who are profiting from the status quo to change it.

Just follow the money , and you will probably find out why lawyers don't want lay people helping folks with legal issues . Many lawyers charge over $300 dollars per hour ; and they don't want anyone cutting in on their cash cow . Cost for legal help is the reason why so many Canadians are denied justice

Self-Deterministic Theory, Logic, Emotions And The Police
I am always in a constant battle with myself between logic and emotion. From life experience, most of my mistakes in life were the results of decisions arising from emotional responses, rather than those based on logic.
I ‘ve come to realise that logic is only a structured systematic thought process for example if condition A exists then the result has to be this. or if you remove every possible explanation and you are left with one, that has to be the correct one.
Logic by itself, without emotion, cannot keep our species alive because is only an abstract thought process and this thought process is not a drive for survival, while the process is useful in developing strategies to get what we want it is not directly responsible for our survival.
Emotions, on the other hand, seems to be the main driving force to keep our species alive and at the individual level, it is emotions that dictate why we behave as we do. Related to emotions and why we behave there are three other properties, motivation and drive which can work for us or can work against us depending on what we are responding to.
One of the best theoretical frameworks that I have found as a base to understand the relationship between behaviour and emotion is the self-determination theory.
The beauty of the self-determination theory is that it simplifies our emotional drives into three basic needs. 1. Autonomy. Is the universal urge to be causal agents of one’s own life and act in harmony with one’s integrated self. 2. Competence, Seek to control the outcome and experience mastery and 3. Relatedness, Is the universal want to interact, be connected to, and experience caring for others. (Ryan, & Deci, 2000).
The implication of the theory is that if any, any combination or all are not met, the chances of experiencing negative emotions such as anxiety, fear, depression and others is greatly increased. In other words, a state of unhappiness and if these are not met between people conflict can arise.
In an upcoming video, I will be discussing police aggression, investigation and interrogation of innocent people using the logic of the theory of self-determination. The discussion will look at two frames of reference one from the police and the other from the person(s) frame of reference and how the interaction between the two can have serious negative impact on the lives of the innocent person.

Ottawa provides N.B. with $200M to restart economy during COVID-19
There are still 3 active cases of the respiratory illness in New Brunswick
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced this week that the government will provide $19 billion to the provinces and territories to help fund a 'safe restart' of the Canadian economy. (Sean Kilpatrick/The Canadian Press)
The federal government will provide New Brunswick with $200 million to help boost its economy during the COVID-19 pandemic, officials announced Friday as the province finished its 12th week of recovery and second week in the Atlantic bubble.
Public Health announced a second day of no new positive tests, leaving only three active cases in the province.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday, the federal government will be providing $19 billion to the provinces and territories to help fund a "safe restart" of the Canadian economy.
The direct transfers are part of a comprehensive agreement to help those governments cover some of their budgetary costs over the next six to eight months as they reopen and prepare for a possible second wave of COVID-19.
"We are all in this together, and we have shown our desire to make sure that Canadians can safely move forward with their lives during this pandemic," said Premier Blaine Higgs in a statement Friday.
"This agreement will help us in our efforts to address concerns facing New Brunswickers in adjusting to our new normal."
The agreement provides:
- Funding to support the acquisition of personal protective equipment for health-care and non-health-care sectors;
- Support for child care and senior care facilities;
- Direct funding to improve the sustainability of Canada's health-care systems;
- Assistance for municipalities.
In a news release, Higgs also said the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the need for comprehensive action to secure the future of Canada's health-care systems and he is looking forward to further discussions among the first ministers to make health care sustainable for all Canadians in the future.
No new active cases of COVID-19
The three active COVID-19 cases in New Brunswick include two cases in the Moncton region and one in the Fredericton region. All are travel-related but none are related to the Atlantic bubble, which started July 3, when all four Atlantic provinces opened their borders to each other.Since the first case of COVID-19 was reported March 11 in New Brunswick, 168 people have been diagnosed with the respiratory illness. A total of 163 people have recovered. In June, there were two deaths related to COVID-19 at a long-term care facility in Atholville.
This vehicle with a Tennessee licence plate was driving around Fredericton, with a sticker on the back that read: 'Yes, we isolated for 14 days.' (Elizabeth Fraser/CBC News)
A total of 48,096 tests have been done.
According to the province's dashboard, traffic through the Aulac crossing into New Brunswick has been fairly steady, and reached about 4,900 travellers on Thursday. In all, 8,378 personal vehicles and 3,822 commercial vehicles entered through seven checkpoints.

People concerned they might have COVID-19 symptoms can take a self-assessment test on the government website at gnb.ca.Public Health says symptoms shown by people with COVID-19 have included: a fever above 38 C, a new cough or worsening chronic cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, new onset of fatigue, new onset of muscle pain, diarrhea, loss of sense of taste or smell, and difficulty breathing. In children, symptoms have also included purple markings on the fingers and toes.
People with one of those symptoms are asked to:
- Stay at home.
- Call Tele-Care 811 or their doctor.
- Describe symptoms and travel history.
- Follow instructions.

An introduction to the Protection of Personal Information Act: NB
By André Faust
We are living in a world that is data driven, however, some of that data collected includes personal information which can be sold, can be used to monitor behaviour, or be retain for future use good or bad.
As an individual, you should be able to get your personal information from whoever has collected, and in an ideal world that is the way it should be. In reality, that is not how it works.
The right to information and the protection of personal act does not go far enough, currently, it seems to focus more on government and its affiliated agencies. It doesn’t have too many teeth when it comes to private business when a person is requesting information about themselves. The only restriction that is placed on business is that they can not arbitrarily give out that information, however, there are circumstances that the law allows them to do so.
Included below is a primary on the protection of information (2001), that gives a good overview what information can be collected and what information cannot. While it is a bit antiquated there are still some concepts at are still useful.
To avoid andy confusion this is not intended as legal advice, It is always best to see a lawyer to get a legal explanation of any legal matters which you may encounter from time to time.

YO Mr Faust you have admitted knowing Chucky Cry Baby Leblanc back in 2008. Correct?
So how do you explain Chucky violating my privacy when the RCMP falsely arrested me without a warrant etc on behalf of your ex cop buddy Carl Urquhart and others. When the cops kept me too long in their jail with no charges they conned a mindless shrink to have a bunch of cops tackle me and then have a nasty unionized nurse inject my arse full of drugs and file me in the the looney bin of the DECH. Chucky made certain all his fans knew about immediately while I was still locked up in La La Land.

My records show that this is the first email i sent to Chucky Cry Baby Leblanc and you Occupy dudes as soon as he announced the stet of Occupy Fat Fred City.
As I told you on the phone later when Chucky first made mention of a dude named Andre in the occupy movement in fat fred City, I thought that guy was his blogging buddy Andre Murray. However one I talked to him I could tell that had no involvement in Occupy.
Once Chucky showed videos of you and your Occupy buddies I remembered you and the boat in Saint John. I connected the dots and called you then sent you some emails. Hell i even introduced you to the top contact dude in Occupy Wall St..Remember? In return you have played dumb ever since. The obvious question is Why?
Well at least you and Chucky Cry Baby Leblanc cannot deny that i sent this email to his very nasty blogger buddy whom I call Purple Violent Press, Banksters, the RCMP, The Fat Fred City Finest, the corporate media, you and your Occupy Fat Fred City pals and also to one of your political opponents when you ran for a seat on the City Council the following year N’esy Pas?

Heres why the Crown will never Prosecute Chucky Leblanc under Section 300
'The end of the road': libel charge against Charles LeBlanc not approved
Crown doesn't authorize charge against controversial blogger after investigation by Edmundston police
CBC News Posted: May 09, 2017 3:36 PM AT
Another charge of libel against Fredericton blogger Charles LeBlanc has not been approved by the Crown after an investigation by members of the Edmundston Police Force.
Edmundston police were asked to investigate a complaint made against LeBlanc to the Fredericton Police Force.
Because of LeBlanc's contentious history with Fredericton police, the force asked the Edmundston department to do look into the complaint.
In November 2016, two members of the Edmundston Police Force arrested LeBlanc near the New Brunswick Legislature in Fredericton and told him he was being investigated for defamatory libel.
It was the second time police investigated LeBlanc for libel. In 2012, Fredericton police charged him with criminal libel under Section 301 of the Criminal Code for his blog posts about a Fredericton police officer.
The New Brunswick attorney general later ordered the charge dropped because Section 301 had been found unconstitutional in other jurisdictions. Under 301, it doesn't matter for a conviction whether a person who publishes a libel knows the material was false.
New investigation in 2016
Later, Edmundston police pursued its libel investigation of LeBlanc under Section 300, which states:"Every one who publishes a defamatory libel that he knows is false is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years."
'That's basically the end of the road.' - Gilles Lee, Edmundston police chiefLeBlanc filed a complaint with the New Brunswick Police Commission about his arrest in November.
The commission recently informed him it was reopening the investigation into his complaint since it had been informed a charge against him was not approved by the Crown.
New Brunswick Police Commission executive director Steve Roberge confirmed the existence of the letter to LeBlanc, which states Edmundston police Chief Gilles Lee advised the commission that charges against LeBlanc were not approved by the Crown.
"That's basically the end of the road," Gilles said in an interview. "That's the way we see it."
- Charles LeBlanc investigated again for libel against Fredericton police
- Fredericton blogger libel charges won't proceed
- Judge says defamation law will eventually tame internet
In July 2011, LeBlanc posted comments and a photo of the constable who issued him the ticket, referring to him as a "fascist cop" and "sexual pervert Quebecois Const."
The constable initiated the defamatory libel complaint against LeBlanc that led to the 2012 charge that was later abandoned.
In 2012, the City of Fredericton hired former ombudsman Bernard Richard to review the Fredericton Police Force's handling of the initial criminal libel case.
Richard said the force should have "farmed out" the investigation of the initial complaint about LeBlanc.
Richard also recommended the force provide its members with enhanced mandatory training on dealing with emotionally disturbed people.
The Edmunston police chief would not confirm that its investigation of LeBlanc was related to the same blog posts that provoked the libel investigation by Fredericton police.

The Honourable René Leblanc,
The Honourable René Leblanc, was a lawyer with the Department of
Justice Canada in Ottawa, and was appointed a Judge of the Federal
Court on April 11, 2014.
Mr. Justice LeBlanc received a Bachelor of Civil Law from Université
Laval in 1979 and was called to the Barreau du Québec in 1980. He
worked in private practice with the law firm of Lazarovitch, Cannon,
Lemelin & Rourke in Québec City before joining the Legal Services Unit
of the Secretary of State of Canada in 1982. In 1986, he joined the
Department of Justice Canada as a litigator and was appointed Senior
General Counsel in 2006. In that capacity he appeared before all
levels of court.
During his time with the Department of Justice he was designated as
one of a small group of lawyers to represent the Attorney General of
Canada before the Supreme Court of Canada. He was also a member of the
national committee responsible for reviewing all aspects of litigation
before the Supreme Court of Canada involving the government of Canada.
His main area of practice was civil litigation and constitutional law.
Justice LeBlanc has been a frequent conference speaker to his
colleagues at the Department of Justice and has served as a part-time
professor at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Civil Law. He is
also co-author of a book on the recourses and procedure before the
Federal Courts (Letarte, Veilleux, LeBlanc et Rouillard-Labbé, Recours
et procédure devant les Cours fédérales, Montréal, LexisNexis Canada
Inc., 2013). This book was published in 2013 and is the only
publication in the French language dealing with that subject matter.
Any way I went through your statement of claim, I hoped that you have included the statement of defense as well.
What defense? I have done NOTHING wrong. The smiling bastards practiced wrongs against me kinda like your “Occupy” pal Scotty Baby Agnew and Menard his lawyer/wife did only a lot worse.
Furthermore the Crown has offered no defense whatsoever other than trying every trick in the book to make the complaint evaporate.
Did you forget you have had this info for quite some time and that you criticized the sound quality of the recording of the court and even offered to fix it?
FYI I appealed a decision about a motion to dismiss that I won because I am ethical and the judge was not. Now the Crown wants another kick at the can and I am looking forward to kicking them in the balls again but this time in front of quite likely three more corrupt judges Get it yet?
The other thing that I find is that you make assumptions that I have extensive knowledge about your situation.
I have lost count of the number of emails that I have received, you supply all kinds of data, That which is analogous to scientific report that contains only the data, with discussion assuming that the reader will know the abstract, the introduction, the procedure/methodology, discussion, results, and the conclusion.
I just have bits and pieces, the order I don’t know. From what I have been able to extrapolate, because don’t come write out and spell it out I have to make inference, which is can be erroneous. It seems that 1. you were arrested for no reason and placed for psychiatric evaluation, and that you have been banned from the legislative building, I know nothing about the circumstances for those results.
A person could with all you information provided spend years to write a thesis to get an understanding.
From the audio, you seem to have a better handle on the legal aspect than I do. I have to borrow a quote from Danny Watters former criminal lawyer “You don’t learn about law in law school, you learn law when you are practicing it”. Well you have been practicing. In the first auto the xmas one the Judge acknowledged that were experience with court procedure.
This morning I rethought it and said what the Hell why not stress test your ethics one last time before May 24th.It should prove interesting to me to see if you have the balls to allow it to be posted within your own blog. I know that your buddy Chucky Leblanc the self described biggest bullshitter in the province of NB never would.
I must say that you Fake Left dudes in Fat Fred City and elsewhere are sly with your wording and have rather convenient memories. BTW say Hey to your college buddies Johnny “Never Been Good” Bosnitch and Torturous Tony Tracy for me will ya? I may be as dumb as post but at least like Forest Gump you clever dudes can’t fool me because I am too stupid. However it is well known that I have a very good memory and that I keep better records than any court clerk.
That said even though you may not get your emails. I get no notice from your provider that they were blocked . Plus everybody and his dog knows at least one of the emails I sent you and your buddies in UNB et al has been properly filed in the Federal Court of Appeal since March 8th, 2017. FYI I have backed off sending emails through no choice of my own GOOGLE has deleted two of my emails account in the past week for the benefit of the RCMP and the FBI before I meet three more stooges they call judges from Ottawa in Fat Fred City. Now you wish updates as to what I am up to perhaps you should check my Twitter account that Pam Ross everybody else within the Council of Canadians blocks because I busted her balls in front of her friends when I pointed to her bragging to Chucky about breaking her eggs N’esy Pas?
https://www.scribd.com/document/347506186/A-duly-recorded-Registry-Email-Message-and-My-Response
Furthermore I explained to you exactly who I was in our one and only phone conversation as soon as I knew you were one of the dude in the Occupy Fredericton nonsense. After we talked i introduced you to Bill Csapo of Occupy Wall St and my former friends Julian Assange and Birgiitta Jonsdottir of Wikileaks.
You should not deny this email after it has been all over the Internet for years. Remember how you mentioned that you were starting this blog. When you asked if I wished to be Anonymous I shook my head. Why the Hell would I wish to be anonymous? I had already told you that i had ran for public office four times thus far after i had sued more lawyers than most folks could name before the Yankees attempted their extra ordinary rendition nonsense on me in 2003. My document are published all over the Internet and in the public records of many courts in Canada and the USA just because Scotty Baby Agnew (formerly chief spin doctor on the web for the Irving Empire) and his lawyer wifey Menard (former leader of the Green Party of NB) lie about that the obvious facts it does not follow that they can make simple truths go away.EH?
This email to you that i inserted below is still published within Chucky Leblanc’s and Sally Brook”s other buddy named Andre old blog about my rants Correct?

Hi, David it was a pleasure speaking with you, on Sunday, unfortunately a
family crises developed while I was speaking with you, I do hope to be able
to resume conversation with, but I have to admit there a bit of a learning
curve that is involved in getting to fully understand the whole, It’s like
you providing me with many pieces of a puzzle and I have to put it
together, but I am up to the challenge.
The intention of the Facebook is to foster critical thinking, so I don’t
interfere much unless, the posts are direct attack on the posters. When I
first started the page it was easy to police the nature and the context of
the post, but currently the flow is very high and there is really no way
for me to check everything out. For most cases I will only view videos if
the are less then three minutes, longer ones I tend to listen for about a
min, but I do spot listens.
There is not enough time in the day .. to be thorough.
There is another site that I am working on, the Left eye, which I hope to
have up and running by the end of the December. If I publish any of your
research to you wish to be credited, or remain anonymous? That was the
site that I was working on before I became involved the the Occupy
movement..
Thanks Andre Faust .. 🙂

I think that I have gone the extra mile to allow you to tell your story, Tell me now If I attend your hearing on the 24 I am I going to be exposed to verbal abuse and attack on my persons.
I have been up front, I’ve told you that you provide a continuous flow of information that is way beyond the time that I can read, process and synthesize, there is just not enough hours in the day.
I have many other things going on in my life, my family, advocacy, research and a list of things to do.
I have also told you that you make certain assumptions that I am supposed to know, of which I don’t.
I know your intent is to try to educate me about the multiple issues that you are dealing with which I can understand your passion, but due to the complexities of your issues, I don’t have the time. As I putting 16+ hour days. When you consider sleep, hygiene and food, that doesn’t leave much time for me.
I really don’t understand why you are continuously kicking me in the nuts.
