Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eliot Spitzer in 2004

On March 10, 2008, The New York Times reported that Democratic Party
Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer had patronized a prostitution ring
run by an escort service known as Emperors Club VIP. During the course
of an investigation into Emperors Club VIP, the federal government
became aware of Spitzer's involvement with prostitutes due to a
wiretap. Following the public disclosure of his actions, Spitzer
resigned as Governor effective March 17, 2008.

Investigations

The investigation of Spitzer was initiated after North Fork Bank[1]
reported suspicious transactions to the Treasury Department's
Financial Crimes Enforcement Network as required by the Bank Secrecy
Act, which was enhanced by Patriot Act provisions, enacted to combat
terrorist activity such as money laundering.[2] Spitzer had at least
seven liaisons with prostitutes from the agency over six months, and
paid more than $15,000 for their services. Federal agents had him
under surveillance twice in 2008.[3][4][5]

Mr. David Amos

Dear Mr. Amos,

Thank you for your follow up e-mail to me today. I was on days off
over the holidays and returned to work this evening. Rest assured I
was not ignoring or procrastinating to respond to your concerns.

As your attachment sent today refers from Premier Graham, our position
is clear on your dead calf issue: Our forensic labs do not process
testing on animals in cases such as yours, they are referred to the
Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown who can provide these
services. If you do not choose to utilize their expertise in this
instance, then that is your decision and nothing more can be done.

As for your other concerns regarding the US Government, false
imprisonment and Federal Court Dates in the US, etc... it is clear
that Federal authorities are aware of your concerns both in Canada and
the US. These issues do not fall into the purvue of Detachment
policing in Petitcodiac, NB.

It was indeed an interesting and informative conversation we had on
December 23rd, and I wish you well in all of your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Warren McBeath, Cpl.

RCMP surprised by New Brunswick's concerns about top cop

Letter says Mountie HQ wasn’t told of problems before cabinet minister Ted Flemming triggered removal

Commissioner Brenda Lucki told the province's public safety minister it was "unfortunate" that no one told her or her senior management team that they had "concerns" about assistant commissioner Larry Tremblay.

"There may have been an opportunity to proactively address some of the issues you've raised," Lucki wrote to then-minister Ted Flemming in a July 29, 2021 letter obtained by CBC News.

Flemming had written to Lucki two weeks earlier, invoking a section of the province's policing contract with the RCMP that allowed him to ask the force to replace Tremblay.

Ted Flemming was public safety minister when New Brunswick pushed for the removal of Larry Tremblay as assistant commissioner of the RCMP's J Division. (Joe McDonald/CBC)

"I do not invoke article 7.4 lightly, and I regret that it has become necessary," Flemming wrote in his July 15 letter.

That section says the minister can request a replacement if the commissioner is convinced "sufficient cause" exists that the head of J division "no longer commands the confidence" of the provincial government.

Flemming's letter opened by saying "as you are aware," Tremblay "no longer commands my confidence" to act on drug crime and be accountable to local communities.

In her response, Lucki said "neither I, nor my management, were aware of any concerns" about Tremblay before Flemming's letter.

The Department of Public Safety turned down an interview request Tuesday. "We have no additional comment on this matter," said spokesperson Geoffrey Downey.

Lucki's letter said she hoped the RCMP could work with the province to reach "a positive resolution that will ensure all parties involved are treated with respect and dignity" without having to invoke Article 7.4.

When CBC first revealed Tremblay's removal last year, J Division spokesperson Angela Chang claimed Article 7.4 hadn't been invoked and Tremblay made a "personal decision" to retire at the end of October.

Chang later withdraw the assertion the article hadn't been invoked.

The RCMP rejected an interview request Tuesday. Spokesperson Robin Percival repeated that Tremblay had made a personal decision to retire effective Oct. 31, 2021.

CBC News obtained Lucki's letter to Flemming this week through an access to information request to the RCMP.

In his letter to Lucki, Flemming complained that Tremblay did not help the Higgs government "drive significant change" in policing, especially on drug crime.

The minister said in an interview last October that J Division was "not having the kind of leadership that we felt we needed" and the situation was "out of control."

He said the province wanted to "declare war" on drug dealers.

Tremblay was removed from the job in J Division last year after a request from the province. (Ed Hunter/CBC)

Opposition Liberal MLA Rob McKee says Flemming often speaks about the independence of the justice and policing system but his decision to push out Tremblay "demonstrated just the opposite."

"The fact that now it's coming back that he did not even raise concerns with them is even more concerning," McKee said.

"I think this shows that after the fact, Lucki is saying that she felt due process wasn't respected in this case."

The province provided an extra $2.3 million for J Division's crime reduction unit last year to try to reduce drug crime, part of a five year addiction and mental health action plan.

This year's budget added another $3.3 million.

Tremblay was named assistant commissioner of the RCMP for New Brunswick in 2016.

Three days after CBC News revealed Flemming's push to remove him, the RCMP said it had decided "to not proceed" with appointing Chief Superintendent Kevin Leahy, head of the Parliamentary Protective Service in Ottawa, as his replacement.

Carleton MLA Bill Hogan took over the role of public safety minister in the Higgs cabinet earlier this year, assuming the role held by Ted Flemming, who remains justice minister and attorney-general. (Jacques Poitras/CBC)

In January, DeAnna Hill was put in the assistant commissioner's job instead.

Flemming himself was later replaced in the role of public safety minister.

Premier Blaine Higgs shuffled Carleton MLA Bill Hogan into the position in February, saying it would help "ramp up our intensity" in fighting drug crime.

He said it wasn't a reflection on Flemming, who remains attorney general and justice minister.

"I don't think it's a case of Minister Flemming not being able to continue," Higgs said. "I think it's a situation where we're putting an emphasis on public safety and rural communities and communities throughout our province that have continued to face crime issues."

What kind of strange game is the US Justice Dept and the SEC playing
with me now Mr Litt? Rest assured I won't play it and many people know
that I never would Even though the corporate media won't talk about my
concerns about your actions,  others certainly do.

Here is just one example that still exists on the net. Even though
Danny Boy Fitzgerald hates this mean old Maritimer, at least
understands the meaning of the term Integrity and detests you people
more. I am merely wondering how much longer his blog will exist. You
know why EH T.J. Burke?

http://qslspolitics.blogspot.com/search?q=amos

You dudes know as well as I that my concerns are far greater that mere
matters of money and Bernie Madoff. Perhaps you should talk to your
associates in the RCMP and the INTERPOL ASAP Clearly I am trying hard
to make the whole world know about my concerns about the Feds' severe
lack of integrity EH H. David Kotz?

Ms Olsen

Thank you for keeping me informed.

Yes unseal all my emails with all their attachments immediately and
make certain that the US Attorny's office finally practices full
disclosurement as to who I am and what my concerns are as per the Rule
of Law within a purported democracy.

As you folks all well know I am not a shy man and I have done nothing
wrong. It appears to me that bureacratic people only use the right to
privacy of others when it suits their malicious ends in order to
protect their butts from impreacment,  litigation and prosecution.

The people in the US Attorney's Office and the SEC etc are very well
aware that I protested immediately to everyone I could think of when
the instant I knew that my correspondences went under seal and Madoff
pled guilty so quickly and yet another cover up involing my actions
was under full steam. Everybody knows that.the US Government has been
trying to keep my concerns about the rampant public corruption a
secret for well over seven long years. However now that a lot of
poeple and their countries in general are losing a lot of money people
are beginning to remember just exactly who I am and what i did
beginning over seven years ago..

P.S. For the record  Obviously I pounced on these Yankee bastards as
soon as the newsrag in Boston published this article on the web last
night.

http://www.bostonherald.com/business/general/view.bg?articleid=1162354&f
ormat=&page=2&listingType=biz#articleFull

Notice that Nester just like everyone else would not say my name? It
is because my issues surrounding both Madoff and are NOT marketing
timing  They are as you all well know money laundering, fraud,
forgery, perjury, securites fraud, tax fraud, Bank fraud, illegal
wiretappping  and Murder amongst other very serious crimes.

"SEC spokesman John Nester dismissed similarities between Markopolos
and Scannell's cases as "not a valid comparison."

He said the SEC determined the market-timing by Putnam clients that
Scannell reported didn't violate federal law. Nester said the SEC only
acted after another tipster alleged undisclosed market-timing by some
Putnam insiders.

Scannell, now a crusader for SEC reforms, isn't surprised the agency

In United States v. Bernard L. Madoff, 09 Cr. 213 (DC), the Court
received a request from NBC and ABC to unseal all correspondence from
victims that has been submitted in connection with the case.  This
includes your email to the Government.  If the correspondence from
victims is unsealed, the victim's personal identifying information
including name, address, telephone number and email address (to the
extent it was included on the correspondence) will become public. The
Government must submit a response to the request by NBC and ABC by
Tuesday, March 31, 2009.  Please let us know whether you consent to
the full disclosure of your correspondence, or whether you wish to
have your correspondence remain sealed for privacy or other reasons.
If you wish to have your correspondence remain sealed, please let us
know the reason.  We will defend your privacy to the extent that we
can.  Thank you.

I looks like the US attorney in New York finally has to unseal my
emails that you dudes have been sitting on for quite some time for no
reason I will ever understand other than you are just a bunch of
chickenshits.

I know NBC, ABC, your blogger buddies or any other media wacko will
never say my name but the pissed off folks that lost a lot of money
with Bernie Baby just may ask how the hell I am EH?

On March 10, 2009, the Honorable Denny Chin provided the following
guidance for victims who wish to be heard at the plea proceeding on
March 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.:

Judge Chin stated that there are two issues that the Court will
consider at the hearing: (1) whether to accept a guilty plea from the
defendant to the eleven-count Criminal Information filed by the
Government, which provides for a maximum sentence of 150 years'
imprisonment; and (2) whether the defendant should be remanded or
released on conditions of bail, if the Court accepts a guilty plea.
Judge Chin also stated that, at the hearing on March 12, 2009, he will
conduct a plea allocution of the defendant and then will announce
whether the Court intends to accept the plea.  At that time, the Court
will solicit speakers who disagree with the Court's intended ruling.

Assuming the defendant pleads guilty and his plea is accepted by the
Court, the Court intends to allow the Government and defense counsel
to speak on the issue of bail.  The Court will then announce its
intended ruling on that issue.  The Court will then invite individuals
who disagree with the proposed ruling on bail to be heard.

The Court noted that there will be opportunity for victims to be
heard in the future on the subjects of sentencing, forfeiture and
restitution in advance of any sentencing of the defendant.  The Court
also noted that it is not appropriate for victims who wish to speak
concerning sentencing issues to be heard at the March 12, 2009
proceeding.

Former Trump advisor Roger Stone joins Ontario Party as strategist
By Paul Soucy Global News

Derek Sloan’s Ontario Party has landed a high-profile name to help
with his party’s campaign ahead of the June provincial election.

The Ontario Party has acquired the services of former Donald Trump
advisor, Roger Stone.

“Roger Stone has worked for several American Presidents including
Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump, as well as electing
dozens of governors, US senators, and congressmen in the United
States,” an Ontario Party news release said.

Stone spoke at a recent Ontario Party event.

The news release said Stone was inspired by February’s Trucker Convoy,
which occupied downtown Ottawa for weeks. The release added that he
was shocked by the Canadian government’s response to it.

“With Roger Stone as our Senior Strategist, we have put together an
incredible team of candidates to take down the ‘fake conservative’
Doug Ford and his leftist elites in Queen’s Park,” the release said.

Donald Trump found in contempt of court in New York civil case

Trump faces a daily fine of $10,000 US until complying with subpoena requests

New York. (Joe Maiorana/The Associated Press)

A New York judge on Monday held former U.S. president Donald Trump in
contempt of court for not producing documents subpoenaed in the state
attorney general's civil probe of his business practices and ordered
Trump to be fined $10,000 US per day until he complies.

Trump lost a bid to quash a subpoena from state Attorney General
Letitia James, then failed to produce all of the documents by a
court-ordered March 3 deadline, later extended to March 31 at his
lawyers' request.

Justice Arthur Engoron ruled that a contempt finding was appropriate
because of what the judge called "repeated failures" to hand over
materials and that it was not clear Trump had conducted a complete
search for the responsive documents.

"Mr. Trump, I know you take your business seriously, and I take mine
seriously. I hereby hold you in civil contempt," the judge said,
although Trump himself was not in the courtroom.

Engoron recently ruled that Trump and two of his adult children,
Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, must answer questions under oath in
the probe. Trump's other son, Eric, sat for a deposition in late 2021.

In arguing for the $10,000 daily fine during the hearing, Andrew Amer,
special litigation counsel with the attorney general's office, said
the fine was meant to coerce Trump into complying with the documents,
not punish him.
Valuations, taxes under scrutiny

James is investigating whether the Trump Organization, the former
president's New York City-based family company, misstated the values
of its real estate properties to obtain favourable loans and tax
deductions. Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg was charged
criminally in 2021 for tax fraud by the Manhattan District Attorney's
Office.

James has said her probe had found "significant evidence" suggesting
that for more than a decade, the company's financial statements
"relied on misleading asset valuations and other misrepresentations to
secure economic benefits."

The attorney general has questioned how the Trump Organization valued
the Trump brand, as well as properties — including golf clubs in New
York and Scotland and Trump's own penthouse apartment in Midtown
Manhattan's Trump Tower.

"Today, justice prevailed," James said after Monday's ruling. "Our
investigation into Donald Trump and the Trump Organization's financial
dealings will continue undeterred because no one is above the law."

Alina Habba, a lawyer for Trump and the company, said at the hearing
that James's investigation was a "fishing expedition" and that the
Trump Organization was "right on schedule" with its production of
documents.

"This is a political crusade," Habba said. "The attorney general's
investigation has seemingly become aimless."

Trump and 2 of his children must testify under oath in civil probe

Trump Organization, chief financial officer indicted on tax fraud charges

Trump, a Republican, denies wrongdoing and has called the
investigation politically motivated. James is a Democrat who
previously oversaw a case in which Trump was ordered to pay $2 million
and dissolve a charitable foundation authorities accused him of
misusing.

Trump continues to enjoy strong support within the Republican Party
ahead of a potential bid to regain the presidency, despite also facing
investigations by the Jan. 6 committee in Congress looking into Trump
and White House statements and actions ahead of the Capitol riot in
2021, as well as a special grand jury what will soon be empanelled to
examine attempts to pressure Georgia officials over 2020 election
results that saw President Joe Biden carry that state.

Trump's Save America leadership political action committee has raised
some $112.5 million in cash since November 2020, according to federal
filings obtained by Reuters, and he's endorsed more than 100
candidates who are in congressional and state races this year.

Trump associate Roger Stone sentenced to 40 months in prison after
roller-coaster trial

Trump, days after issuing pardons to others, says Stone has 'a very
good chance at exoneration'

The Associated Press · Posted: Feb 20, 2020 12:38 PM ET

Roger Stone leaves federal court in Washington on Thursday after being
sentenced to 40 months in prison for obstructing a congressional
investigation into whether the Trump campaign co-ordinated with Russia
to tip the 2016 election. He is free pending a decision by the judge
on his motion for a new trial. (Alex Brandon/The Associated Press)

Calling the president's frequent tweets about the case "entirely
inappropriate," a federal judge sentenced Donald Trump ally Roger
Stone to over three years in prison on Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson handed down a 40-month sentence
after Stone was convicted in November on a seven-count indictment that
accused him of lying to Congress, tampering with a witness and
obstructing the House investigation into whether the Trump campaign
co-ordinated with Russia to tip the 2016 election.

Stone, 67, received a 40-month sentence for the obstruction charge,
while the other sentences — 18 months for tampering and 12 months for
lying — are to run concurrently.

The penalties also include 24 months of probation after the prison
term and a $20,000 US fine, but the sentence won't be immediately
implemented. Stone's defence team has filed a motion requesting a new
trial, on which Jackson will rule separately.

courthouse, along with a banner in support of Stone's defence. (Leah
Millis/Reuters)

Jackson said Stone's crimes demanded a significant time behind bars,
but she viewed the original recommendations by the Justice Department
as excessive.

Nevertheless, the sentence seems likely to draw a public rebuke from
Trump, who maintains that Stone's entire case is just an aspect of the
ongoing "witch hunt" against him and his allies by bitter Democrats
and the "deep state" inside the FBI and the Justice Department.

Trump associate Roger Stone found guilty of lying to Congress

Team of prosecutors quits after lighter sentencing recommendation
for Roger Stone

Given Trump's clemency spree this week, there has also been
speculation that Trump could eventually pardon Stone.

Trump said while speaking at an event in Las Vegas after the verdict
that he wants to "let this process play out" in Stone's case but that
he "has a very good chance at exoneration, in my opinion."

Stone's lawyers had asked for a sentence of probation, citing his age,
his health, his persona as a provocateur and his lack of criminal
history.

"He was not prosecuted — as some have complained — for standing up for
the president. He was prosecuted for covering up for the president,"
said Jackson.

"There was nothing unfair, phony or disgraceful about the
investigation or the prosecution," she said, citing words that Trump
has used.

Trump has taken to Twitter to denounce the charges and sentencing
recommendations, including one tweet 20 minutes after Thursday's
proceedings got underway.

"The court cannot be influenced by those comments," said Jackson.
"They were entirely inappropriate."

Trump hints at pardon, calls Roger Stone’s sentence ‘not fair’
2 years ago
Duration 1:57

U.S. President Donald Trump hinted he might pardon longtime ally Roger
Stone, saying the three-plus year sentence was “not fair.” 1:57

Stone had no immediate reaction in court when Jackson announced his
sentence. Later, he emerged from the courthouse to a crowd exchanging
back-and-forth chants of "Lock him up" and "Pardon Roger Stone." Stone
got into a black SUV without speaking to reporters.

His attorney, Bruce Rogow, said Stone and his team would "have no comment."

Stone is the sixth Trump aide or adviser to be convicted of charges
brought as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into
Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen are currently serving prison
sentences, while Rick Gates and George Papadopoulos received short
prison terms. The fate of former White House national security adviser
Michael Flynn has yet to be determined; Flynn withdrew an earlier
guilty plea.

Case sparked controversy in Justice Department

In Stone's initial sentencing memorandum filed Feb. 10, prosecutors
said Stone deserved a prison term lasting seven to nine years, in
accordance with federal sentencing guidelines. Prosecutors had charged
in the filing that Stone "decided to double- and triple-down on his
criminal conduct by tampering with a witness for months in order to
make sure his obstruction would be successful."

Attorney General William Barr backed off the original Justice
Department recommendation, prompting four prosecutors to quit Stone's
case. The attorney general ordered a new memorandum with a less harsh
punishment, though it provided no specifics and left the details to
the judge.

William Barr's intervention in the Stone case led to the resignations
of four prosecutors and an open letter signed by over 1,000 former
Justice Department officials calling for the attorney general's
resignation. (The Associated Press)

Barr later said in an ABC News interview that he had not been asked by
Trump to look into the case, but he did not go into great detail as to
why he chose to intervene in this specific case.

"Why are you the one who is standing here today?" Jackson asked
federal prosecutor John Crabb, who took over the case after the
original trial team quit.

Jackson questioned Crabb closely about exactly what happened within
the Justice Department. Crabb said there had been a "miscommunication"
between Barr and Timothy Shea, the former Barr aide who now serves as
the acting U.S. Attorney in the nation's capital.

In an open letter to the media, over 1,000 former Justice Department
officials last week called on Barr to resign.

"A person should not be given special treatment in a criminal
prosecution because they are a close political ally of the president,"
the letter read.
Stone's communications with WikiLeaks under scrutiny

Stone has denied wrongdoing and consistently criticized the case
against him as politically motivated. He did not take the stand during
his trial, and his lawyers did not call any witnesses in his defence.

The evidence presented in trial provided new insight into the scramble
inside the Trump campaign when it was revealed in July 2016 that the
anti-secrecy site WikiLeaks was in possession of more than 19,000
emails hacked from the servers of the Democratic National Committee.

Witnesses testified that Trump's campaign viewed Stone as an "access
point" to WikiLeaks and tried to use him to get advance word about
hacked emails damaging to Hillary Clinton.

Prosecutors argued that Stone had lied to Congress about his
conversations about WikiLeaks with New York radio host and comedian
Randy Credico.

During the 2016 campaign, Stone had mentioned in interviews and public
appearances that he was in contact with founder Julian Assange through
a trusted intermediary and hinted at inside knowledge of WikiLeaks's
plans.

Testimony revealed that Stone, while appearing before the House
intelligence committee, named Credico as his intermediary to Assange
and pressured Credico not to contradict him.

After Credico was contacted by Congress, he reached out to Stone, who
told him he should "stonewall it" and "plead the fifth," he testified.

Prosecutors also charged that Stone had threatened Credico's therapy
dog, Bianca, saying he was "going to take that dog away from you."

conservative group America First beside a placard of Trump. The

In the run-up to trial, Stone raised the ire of the judge with
comments made in social media posts and interviews, leading to a gag
order and the threat of pre-trial detention.

Jackson said during the hearing that Stone's use of social media to
stoke public sentiment against the prosecution and the court was
intended to reach a wide audience, including an Instagram post with a
photo of her with crosshairs superimposed.

"This is intolerable to the administration of justice," Jackson said.

While Trump has tried to downplay his personal relationship with some
of the associates previously charged or convicted, he was a client of
the lobbying firm Black, Manafort and Stone beginning in the 1980s,
and Stone was often by Trump's side as he talked up a possible 2000
bid for president as a candidate of the Reform Party.

In 2015, Stone was on board as Trump launched his bid for president as
a Republican, but left the campaign in an official capacity in August
that year.

"He was not involved when I ran for president [in 2016]," Trump
protested in his speech Thursday in Nevada.

But as details of the indictment made clear, Stone was regularly in
touch with Trump campaign officials throughout the campaign in 2016
and into the transition phase.

Tonight on the Show first, April Lajune is our guest this evening and
she's from Missouri which is the mid west. April was asked to talk
about election stuff and there's a lot going on. She just heard word
from the decimation suit against Sidney Powell about Smartmatic has
been dropped. Of course the mainstream news is not saying that. We
haven't heard from Sidney Powell, cause she's been laying low.
Here's some interesting stuff about Dominion. So our secretary of
state who is John Ashcroft In 2019. Everybody wants to do business in
a state, is supposed to file with the secretary of states office which
is a paper that states that they want to do business in that state, so
that they can be a state corporation. John Ashcroft had dissolved the
Smart Matics ability to do business in the state of Missouri. 25
counties Dominion was conducting the 2020 election. They were not
supposed to be here do any business here.
