Hmmm.. Someone seems to be having a lot of good fortune here:

-The ethics watchdog takes 'prolonged' medical leave.
-Seven of 8 accused SNC employees have their cases tossed out of court by judges due to "delays" etc.
-Not one SNC-Lavalin charged executice, has been convicted, since 2012.
-Witnesses are not called and recalled by the Liberal Majority Justice Committee members.
-The new justice minister is from Montreal.

@Scotty Davidson

Like never this century. The USA and NSTO has destroyed a half dozen Muslim nation’s of late, from Afghanistan to Iraq to Libya and Syria. WE CAUSED THE REFUGEE CRISIS when the war mongers who supported our invasions, bombings and overthrows are now screaming about the very people whose lives they ruined and who are fleeing. And they are the ones still alive.

Ethics watchdog probing SNC-Lavalin affair. What is the point? If found guilty ....there are no repercussions for JT at all. Just another ethics violation under his belt.

@Tom Abbott

So far they have all been extremely petty. Who knew the Aga Khan wasn’t a family friend until Dawson made new “judge made” rules. And a helicopter ride instead of a boat? Give me a break.

Compare that to Harper’s REAL scandals:

What kind of 'medical reasons'? Mental? Physical? Both? Right in the middle of the biggest file of his career? Canadians deserve some kind of explanation for his leaving his job for who knows how long.

How sickening. Dion is taking medical leave and it is obviously very serious. You question his motives?

Gotta love how the sitting PM does everything in his power to make people beleive that the ethics commissoner of the day is "non-partisan" and "objective". This country is bloody joke and the entire world is waking up to that fact.

@Bill Wilson The Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner of Canada only came into effect in July 2007, meaning it’s only operated under two prime ministers: Trudeau and Stephen Harper. The Harper govt. should not be held as the standard to live up to on ethics. The Harper cabinet-government was found in contempt of Parliament. He wouldn't answer to the people of Canada through their elected MP'. Paul Calandra, parliamentary secretary to Harper, had to give apology for abuse of the democratic process - giving absurd, mocking answers in QP. Conservative MP Brad Butt had to apologize for outright lying in HoC. Harper took the unprecedented step of alleging inappropriate conduct by Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin of the SCC, because his govt couldn't write legislation that would hold up in court 8 losses in the SCC. Conservatives actually wrote a handbook on obstructing Committees and used the tactics like barring witnesses, closure, time limitations, and in camera sessions to stop them from doing their work. He muzzled MP's, civil servants, and scientists. Andy is taking a page out of Harper's play book, just 3 months ago, Dec 04, 2018, the federal ethics watchdog said he was concerned that Scheer's office encouraged a Tory MP Kusie to violate the conflict-of-interest code for members of the House of Commons - posting the an ethics complaint on facebook before filing it. Dion says he's imposing no sanction on Kusie because she posted her ethics complaint on the advice of the Opposition Leader's Office

Ethics watchdog probing SNC-Lavalin affair taking 'prolonged' medical leave

Mario Dion 'will resume his duties as soon as he is able,' says his office

Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion is taking a leave from his duties for medical reasons, according to his office. (Adrian Wyld/Canadian Press)

 Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion, the man looking into potential violations of federal ethics rules in the SNC-Lavalin affair, is stepping away temporarily from his duties for health reasons.
A statement issued by his office today says Dion will be away for a "prolonged period for medical reasons."

"Commissioner Dion will resume his duties as soon as he is able to do so," says the release. "We hope you will join employees of the Office in expressing our best wishes for Commissioner Dion's health.

We would request continued respect for the privacy of Commissioner Dion and his family at this time."
Dion's office said it will continue to gather information on ongoing investigations and offer MPs and other public office holders advice.

"Despite these exceptional circumstances, the work of the Office will continue," says the statement.

Last month, Dion announced he'd investigate claims that the Prime Minister's Office pressured former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould to help Quebec engineering firm SNC-Lavalin avoid criminal prosecution.

The NDP asked the ethics watchdog to look into the matter after a Globe and Mail report alleged the PMO wanted Wilson-Raybould to direct federal prosecutors to draft a "deferred prosecution agreement" (DPA) to avoid taking SNC-Lavalin to trial on bribery and fraud charges.

Dion said there was sufficient cause to investigate Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for a possible contravention of Section 9 of the Conflict of Interest Act. That section prohibits any official responsible for high level decision-making in government from seeking to influence the decision of another person to "improperly further another person's private interests."

A spokesperson for Dion's office said the Speaker of the House of Commons and the Privy Council Office have been told of Dion's absence.

Dion took over the job in early 2018.
