Chris d'Entremont's floor crossing met with mix of admiration, admonition at home in N.S.

Defection of 'staunch Conservative' came as a surprise to constituents, friends

Reaction to MP Chris d'Entremont's move from the Conservative Party to the governing Liberals is making waves back home in Nova Scotia, with some fully supporting his decision and others saying he misrepresented his intentions to voters.

D'Entremont, the representative for Acadie-Annapolis, told reporters Wednesday he left the Conservative caucus because he no longer felt represented in leader Pierre Poilievre's party.

"That does not surprise me," Linda Gregory, warden of the Municipality of the District of Digby, told CBC News on Wednesday. "I think of Poilievre as a right-winger. I personally would run too."

Still, Gregory — whose municipality falls within d'Entremont's southwest Nova Scotia riding — said the longtime politician's switch was unexpected because he's always been known as a "staunch Conservative."

"But he's also got a lot of integrity. He's also a very caring person, caring about his community, caring about what's best. And to me, when he walked across the floor, he made a decision that was very heart-wrenching for him to make the best choice for our community," Gregory said.

D'Entremont was first elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature in 2003 as a Progressive Conservative. He was re-elected four times and held multiple cabinet positions before eyeing the federal seat of West Nova, now Acadie-Annapolis. He became the only non-Liberal MP elected in Nova Scotia in the 2019 federal election.

Gregory said she hopes having d'Entremont in the Liberal caucus will lead to action on important local issues, including the twinning of Highway 101.

"We need the feds on side with the province to get this done," said the warden.

'Maybe it's a good thing, maybe it's a bad thing'

John Cunningham, the warden for the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth, said he was surprised by Tuesday's floor crossing and that the people he's spoken to have mixed feelings.

Cunningham, who once ran unsuccessfully for the provincial Progressive Conservatives, said he's not sure how d'Entremont's decision will impact his municipality, where the top issues include fisheries, infrastructure and tourism.

"I've yet to speak with him on how our priorities are going to be brought forth to the government, so maybe it's a good thing, maybe it's a bad thing. Until I speak with him, I have no idea," Cunningham told CBC News, adding that he had already reached out to d'Entremont in a text message.

'It's not about the party, it's about leadership'

Pam Mood, mayor of the Town of Yarmouth, said d'Entremont is a friend and she supports his decision.

"I think it was a good move, obviously. He knows what the community needs," said Mood, who briefly pursued the federal Liberal nomination in West Nova in 2019. "It's not about the party, it's about leadership."

Mood said there would be "better opportunity" to secure federal funding for projects with an MP on the government side.

"When you've got things aligned, it's much better," she said.

Constituents' reaction mixed

Some 189 kilometres away, constituents in Kingston, N.S., were divided.

"It's upsetting," said Steve Mosher. "I supported Chris in the last election under Pierre Poilievre's leadership, as did my wife. So we were both kind of upset to see it happen, honestly."

Len Gregory said he was glad d'Entremont switched to the Liberal caucus, giving the MP credit for taking "his time to think about the things that he wanted, and he felt that we wanted."

Another constituent, Fred Huntley, said he was "kind of neutral on it."

"Not worried," said Huntley. "He's done a lot of good for us."

Sense of betrayal

Rob Batherson, the former president of the Conservative Party of Canada, said d'Entremont betrayed his voters.

He said d'Entremont's decision leaves Nova Scotia with a "Liberal monopoly."

"I stood on a wharf in West Dover with Chris d'Entremont and [former Tory MP] Rick Perkins and others with fishermen during the federal election where we promised them we would fight for them, and Chris has walked away from that fight," Batherson told CBC News in an interview on Wednesday.

Former Conservative Party president says floor crossing a betrayal

Nova Scotia MP Chris d'Entremont stunned the Conservative Party by crossing the floor on Tuesday to join Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberals. Rob Batherson, the former president of the Conservative Party, said he's never felt more betrayed in more than 30 years of politics. Watch his interview with Amy Smith.

Kevin Surette, a Conservative insider who has been part of nearly all of d'Entremont's campaigns, said it wouldn't have been an easy decision to leave caucus.

"Chris has been a close personal friend for a long time — I knew Chris well before politics, and I will continue to call him a friend long after he leaves politics," Surette told CBC News in an email.

"I know that, in making this decision, he would have been weighing what he fundamentally, deep down believes is right for his constituents and for Canada, despite the personal consequences for him."

Why move was shocking

Alex Marland, a Canadian politics professor at Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S., said d'Entremont's move was surprising given the timing — announcing it at the same time as the federal budget.

"Crossing the floor is such a polarizing, upsetting thing that it would be more likely that we'd see people sitting as Independents to express their discontent. As an Independent, you can still vote with the government," Marland said.

"It is far more shocking to me that you saw Chris d'Entremont cross the floor directly from the Conservatives right over into the Liberals."

Marland said in his research, the No. 1 reason for crossing the floor is unhappiness with leadership.

With d'Entremont gone, there are no longer any Nova Scotia Conservatives in caucus.

Marland said the Conservative Party will have to do more to better align itself with the Atlantic region.

Nova Scotia MP Chris d'Entremont resigns from Conservative caucus to join the Liberals

Liberals are 2 seats shy of majority with floor-crossing

John Paul Tasker · CBC News · Posted: Nov 04, 2025 6:25 PM AST

"Rob Batherson, a fellow Nova Scotian and past president of the federal Conservatives, said d'Entremont's departure is "the worst personal betrayal I have ever experienced in 30-plus years of politics."

"After the last election, Chris d’Entremont told me repeatedly that he would be Nova Scotia’s voice in Canada’s Official Opposition. He has deprived Nova Scotians of that voice and broke his personal word to me. I never imagined I would be in a position to not trust Chris d’Entremont," he said."

SUSSEX - GOLD FOUND AND BERNARD LORD'S OPINION!!!!

Hey Ted Tax as soon as I saw that the Lt. Gov had honoured you

I figured you would do nothing to rock the Queen's boat for reasons of
job security. However even you and your pension funds rely on the
ethics of the Yankees employed by the SEC in the USA. Perhaps you
should side with me ASAP. My kids need a roof over their heads. I am
not above suing anyone to get one including the Queen and the Holy
See. However it is your job to prosecute criminals not mine. Correct?

"Ted Tax and the Department's Atlantic Regional Office (ARO) were
honoured at a Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor's Awards Ceremony. Tax
was presented with a Certificate of Recognition for "contribution to
the Reserve Force by taking positive action to assist its employees
who are reservists in maintaining their commitments to the Canadian
Forces." Following September 11, 2001, there was an increase in the
demand for military legal officers on operational deployments. Major
John Smithers, a lawyer with the Tax Law Services Section of the ARO,
was granted military leave to serve on an overseas mission."

For the record this is the text of the cover letter sent to Baker etc.
Lets see what Mr. Speaker has to say now. I believe he is an ex cop
ain't he? Lets see if he remembers how to uphold the law. If not don't
you think it is high time that the lawyers in the NDP give the crooked
Conservative Goverment the Boot? Everybody knows they are lapdogs for
George W. Bush. Why else did he make it a point to fly down and see
them last year and snub Paul Martin and his cohorts in Ottawa?

RE: Public Corruption

Hey,

Apparently everybody wanted to play dumb about my concerns and
allegations so that Humpty Dumpty Martin’s minority government would
not fall and they could party hardy while the Queen was in Canada. As
you all know months ago, I began faxing, emailing and calling the
eight other Lt. Governors I had yet to cross paths with. I fully
informed them of my indignation towards the Governor General Clarkson
and two of her other Maritime Lieutenants Roberts and Chaisson before
the latest wave of bad acting Yankees invaded my home in the USA
without warrants or due process if law.

I made certain all of the provincial Attorney Generals and Premiers
can never deny the fact that I tried to make them well aware of my
concerns and allegations in order to make everybody should sit up and
pay attention. Not one person from any of your offices ever responded
in any fashion at all. You can be certain that I expected the
deliberate ignorance. It is one of the oldest tricks in the book that
lawyers employ in order to play their wicked game of see no evil, hear
no evil speak no evil. I knew it would happen particularly after Nova
Scotia’s Conflict of Interest Commissioner Merlin Nunn had blocked my
emails before I had contacted you. I have no doubt it helped to
relieve him of his ethical dilemma before the NS NDP decided what to
do about their chance to unseat the Conservatives. I have no doubt
whatsoever many lawyers in Canada were praying that the Suffolk County
District Attorney would have me back in the loony bin by April 28th
and that all your troubles would go away. I opted to let you all have
your way and did not bother you anymore until the Queen had left our
shores and Parliament quit for the summer. Now it is my turn to have
some fun and raise a little Political Hell.

While the Queen, Clarkson and Martin where all having a grand old time
on the Canadian dime my little Clan went through living hell down
here. Trust me, lawyers need to learn some new tricks. Ignorance is no
excuse to the law or me. Making some Canadian Attorney Generals and
their political buddies show me their arses is child’s play to me
after all that I have experienced in the last few years. If you doubt
me ask Michael J. Bryant and Yvon Marcoux why I am so pissed at their
bosses and the DHS. Then check my work for yourself. If the tag team
of John Ashcroft and Tom Ridge could not intimidate me, believe me you
people don’t have a prayer. Both of those dudes have quit their jobs
but I am still standing and squaring off against their replacements
now. If it were not for all the decent folks I know, the snotty ones
like you would make me feel ashamed to be a Canadian. There is no
shortage of lawyers. It is just that ethical ones that are rare birds,
that’s all. You must know how easily the Canadian people can replace
you with other lawyers if it becomes widely known how willing you are
to ignore crime if it means some fancy dude may be compelled to suffer
for his own wrongs.

The justice system is supposed to be self-policing. It should clean up
its own act rather than trying to maintain a false mask of integrity
for lawyers that are obviously criminals. It is way beyond my
understanding why you people would choose to support the likes of Paul
Martin, Adrienne Clarkson, T. Alex Hickman and Billy Matthews if you
are not all as crooked as hell as well. The deliberate ignorance and
double-talk employed by the wealthy few to dodge simple truths is
absolutely offensive to ordinary people blessed with the rare
attribute called common sense. Not all folks are like sheep.

Paul Martin’s latest tricks make for a very fine example of truly how
bad things are. Even amidst wholesale scandals breaking out hell, west
and crooked everywhere lawyers and politicians just close ranks and
stand together as thick as the thieves they are. I stress tested the
ethics of the ladies of the Bloc Quebecois and the Gomery Inquiry
immediately after Martin’s carefully orchestrated little circus in
Parliament on May 19th was a matter of history. Lets just say I was
not surprised to not hear one peep in response from anyone other than
to get a call from an unidentified and very nervous but cocky Yankee
lawyer claiming that Tony Blair was mad at me.

Pursuant to my phone calls, emails and faxes please find enclosed as
promised exactly the same hard copy of what I sent to the Canadian
Ambassadors Allan Rock and Franky Boy McKenna and a couple of nasty
FBI agents on May 12th just before an interesting event in front of
our home in Milton. I have also included a copy of four letters I have
received in response since then that you may find interesting to say
the least. I also sent you a copy of a letter sent to a lady Ms.
Condolezza Rice whom our former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney
considers to be the most powerful woman in the world. The CD of the
copy of police surveillance tape # 139 is served upon all the above
named Attorney Generals as officers of the court in order that it may
be properly investigated.

I will not bother you with the details of what I am sending to you
byway of the certified US Mail because I will be serving identical
material to many other Canadian Authorities in hand and tell them I
gave this stuff to you first and enclose a copy of this letter. All
that is important to me right now is that I secure proof that this
mail was sent before I make my way back home to the Maritimes. However
I will say I am also enclosing a great deal more material than what
Allan Rock had received in the UN. Some of it is in fact the same
material the two maritime lawyers, Rob Moore and Franky Boy McKenna in
particular received, while I was up home running for Parliament last
year. Things have changed greatly in the past year so I have also
included a few recent items to spice things up for you. I am tired of
trying to convince people employed in law enforcement to uphold the
law. So all I will say for now is deal will your own conscience and be
careful how you respond to this letter. If you do not respond. Rest
assured I will do my best to sue you some day. Ignorance is no excuse
to the law or me.

The enclosed letter from The Public Service Integrity Office, whose
boss recently testified before the Gomery Inquiry and following quotes
prove why I must speak out.

"Well what do you expect?" said Le Hir in reaction. "Anybody who had
been involved in that kind of thing isn't going to admit readily, or
willfully, to having participated." Asked why he's waited 10 years to
come out with his allegations, Le Hir said he was "sworn to secrecy."
"I'm breaking that oath, and the only way I could have been relieved
by that oath was by a judge in a court saying, 'Mr. Lehir, I
understand that you have made an oath of secrecy; and you're hereby
relieved of that oath."

"Mr. Wallace added that police and the courts, not internal rules, are
best-equipped to deal with bureaucrats who cross the line and break
the law. But Judge Gomery did not appear satisfied. "It takes a major
scandal to get the police involved," he said. "It is not in the nature
of the public service to call in the police."

Everybody knows that in order to protect the rights and interests of
my Clan and to sooth my own soul, I have proven many times over that
all lawyers, law enforcement authorities, and politicians in Canada
and the USA are not worthy of the public trust. I maintain that their
first order of business is to protect the evil longstanding system
they have created for their own benefit rather than the people they
claim to serve. Call me a liar and put it in writing. I Double Dog
Dare ya.

Baker got my material. So did everyone else. Only the Attorney General
in Quecbec refused it. I bet our newest Governor General knows why. It
is likely for the same reason she will not accept my emails. It should
be obvious to anyone why I must sue the Crown.

Dear David Amos

Unfortunately there has been a considerable delay in responding to
incoming letters due to heavy workload and many inquiries to our office.

We appreciate the issue raised in your letter. We have set up a web site
www.iceland.org where we have gathered various practical information
regarding the economic crisis in Iceland.

Greetings from the Ministry of Finance.

Corsi in the Crosshairs – Bill Binney Blows the Whistle on Robert
Mueller and DOJ Corruption
72,628 views
Jason Goodman
Streamed live on Dec 1, 2018

Dr. Jerome Corsi is a Harvard PhD and conservative author and
journalist. Dr. Corsi has recently been the focus of Robert Mueller's
corrupt Special Counsel investigation. Having rejected a fraudulent
plea offer, the doctor has hired Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch to
join his legal defense team. Together they have announced intentions
to file a criminal complaint alleging prosecutorial misconduct.

In this explosive interview, Bill Binney lays out first hand
testimony of the corrupt tactics of not only Robert Mueller himself,
but the FBI, NSA, CIA, DOJ and their confederates, including elements
of private industry.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange arrested in London to face hacking
conspiracy charge in the US
Sean Rossman, Doug Stanglin and Bart Jansen, USATNetwork Published

'Barry Pollack, a U.S. lawyer for Assange, criticized the arrest and
said Assange would need medical treatment that had been denied for
seven years.

"It is bitterly disappointing that a country would allow someone to
whom it has extended citizenship and asylum to be arrested in its
embassy," Pollack said." Once his health care needs have been
addressed, the UK courts will need  to resolve what appears to be an
unprecedented effort by the United States seeking to extradite a
foreign journalist to face criminal charges for publishing truthful
information."

Theresa May has given a statement about Assange. Speaking to the
Commons before updating MPs on the Brexit delay, she said:

I am sure that the whole house will welcome the news this morning
that the Metropolitan Police have arrested Julian Assange – arrested
for breach of bail after nearly seven years in the Ecuadorian embassy.
He has also been arrested in relation to an extradition request from
the United States’ authorities. This is now a legal matter before the
courts. The home secretary will make a statement on this later, but I
would like to thank the Metropolitan Police for carrying out their
duties with great professionalism and to welcome the cooperation of
the Ecuadorian government in bringing this matter to a resolution.
This goes to show that, in the United Kingdom, no one is above the
law.

Department of Justice
U.S. Attorney’s Office
Eastern District of Virginia
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, April 11, 2019
WikiLeaks Founder Charged in Computer Hacking Conspiracy

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Julian P. Assange, 47, the founder of WikiLeaks, was
arrested today in the United Kingdom pursuant to the U.S./UK
Extradition Treaty, in connection with a federal charge of conspiracy
to commit computer intrusion for agreeing to break a password to a
classified U.S. government computer.

According to court documents unsealed today, the charge relates to
Assange’s alleged role in one of the largest compromises of classified
information in the history of the United States.

The indictment alleges that in March 2010, Assange engaged in a
conspiracy with Chelsea Manning, a former intelligence analyst in the
U.S. Army, to assist Manning in cracking a password stored on U.S.
Department of Defense computers connected to the Secret Internet
Protocol Network (SIPRNet), a U.S. government network used for
classified documents and communications. Manning, who had access to
the computers in connection with her duties as an intelligence
analyst, was using the computers to download classified records to
transmit to WikiLeaks. Cracking the password would have allowed
Manning to log on to the computers under a username that did not
belong to her. Such a deceptive measure would have made it more
difficult for investigators to determine the source of the illegal
disclosures.

During the conspiracy, Manning and Assange engaged in real-time
discussions regarding Manning’s transmission of classified records to
Assange. The discussions also reflect Assange actively encouraging
Manning to provide more information. During an exchange, Manning told
Assange that “after this upload, that’s all I really have got left.”
To which Assange replied, “curious eyes never run dry in my
experience.”

Assange is charged with conspiracy to commit computer intrusion and is
presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable
doubt. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in
prison. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than
the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine
any sentence after taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines
and other statutory factors.

G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of
Virginia, John C. Demers, Assistant Attorney General for National
Security, and Nancy McNamara, Assistant Director in Charge of the
FBI’s Washington Field Office, made the announcement after the charges
were unsealed. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Doherty-McCormick,
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kellen S. Dwyer, Thomas W. Traxler and Gordon
D. Kromberg, and Trial Attorneys Matthew R. Walczewski and Nicholas O.
Hunter of the Justice Department’s National Security Division are
prosecuting the case.

The extradition will be handled by the Department of Justice’s Office
of International Affairs.

A copy of this press release is located on the website of the U.S.
Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. Related court
documents and information are located on the website of the District
Court for the Eastern District of Virginia or on PACER by searching
for Case No. 1:18-cr-111.

An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a
crime. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless
proven guilty in court.

David Raymond Amos Versus The Crown T-1557-15

                      Court File No. T-1557-15
FEDERAL COURT
BETWEEN:
DAVID RAYMOND AMOS

                           Plaintiff
and
HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN

                           Defendant
STATEMENT OF CLAIM

82.  The Plaintiff states that any politician or police officer should
have seen enough of Barry Winter’s WordPress blog by June 22, 2015
particularly after the very unnecessary demise of two men in Alberta
because of the incompetence of the EPS. Barry Winters was blogging
about the EPS using battering ram in order to execute a warrant for a
250 dollar bylaw offence at the same time Professor Kris Wells
revealed in a televised interview that the EPS member who was killed
was the one investigating the cyber harassment of him. It was obvious
why the police and politicians ignored all the death threats, sexual
harassment, cyberbullying and hate speech of a proud Zionist who
claimed to be a former CF officer who now working for the Department
of National Defence (DND). It is well known that no politician in
Canada is allowed to sit in Parliament as a member of the major
parties unless they support Israel. Since 2002 the Plaintiff made it
well known that he does not support Israeli actions and was against
the American plan to make war on Iraq. On Aril 1, 2003 within two
weeks of the beginning of the War on Iraq, the US Secret Service
threatened to practice extraordinary rendition because false
allegations of a Presidential threat were made against him by an
American court. However, the Americans and the Crown cannot deny that
what he said in two courts on April 1, 2003 because he published the
recordings of what was truly said as soon as he got the court tapes.
The RCMP knows those words can still be heard on the Internet today.
In 2009, the Plaintiff began to complain of Barry Winters about
something far more important to Canada as nation because of Winters’
bragging of being one of 24 CF officers who assisted the Americans in
the planning the War on Iraq in 2002. In the Plaintiff’s humble
opinion the mandate of the DND is Defence not Attack. He is not so
naive to think that such plans of war do not occur but if Barry
Winters was in fact one of the CF officers who did so then he broke
his oath to the Crown the instant he bragged of it in his blog. If
Winters was never an officer in the CF then he broke the law by
impersonating an officer. The Plaintiff downloaded the emails of the
Privy Council about Wikileaks. The bragging of Barry Winters should
have been investigated in 2009 before CBC reported that documents
released by WikiLeaks supported his information about Canadian
involvement in the War on Iraq.

83.  The Plaintiff states that now that Canada is involved in more war
in Iraq again it did not serve Canadian interests and reputation to
allow Barry Winters to publish the following words three times over
five years after he began his bragging:

Little David Amos’ “True History Of War” Canadian Airstrikes And
Stupid Justin Trudeau

Canada’s and Canadians free ride is over. Canada can no longer hide
behind Amerka’s and NATO’s skirts.
When I was still in Canadian Forces then Prime Minister Jean Chretien
actually committed the Canadian Army to deploy in the second campaign
in Iraq, the Coalition of the Willing. This was against or contrary to
the wisdom or advice of those of us Canadian officers that were
involved in the initial planning phases of that operation. There were
significant concern in our planning cell, and NDHQ about of the dearth
of concern for operational guidance, direction, and forces for
operations after the initial occupation of Iraq. At the “last minute”
Prime Minister Chretien and the Liberal government changed its mind.
The Canadian government told our amerkan cousins that we would not
deploy combat troops for the Iraq campaign, but would deploy a
Canadian Battle Group to Afghanistan, enabling our amerkan cousins to
redeploy troops from there to Iraq. The PMO’s thinking that it was
less costly to deploy Canadian Forces to Afghanistan than Iraq. But
alas no one seems to remind the Liberals of Prime Minister Chretien’s
then grossly incorrect assumption. Notwithstanding Jean Chretien’s
incompetence and stupidity, the Canadian Army was heroic,
professional, punched well above it’s weight, and the PPCLI Battle
Group, is credited with “saving Afghanistan” during the Panjway
campaign of 2006.
What Justin Trudeau and the Liberals don’t tell you now, is that then
Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chretien committed, and deployed the
Canadian army to Canada’s longest “war” without the advice, consent,
support, or vote of the Canadian Parliament.
What David Amos and the rest of the ignorant, uneducated, and babbling
chattering classes are too addled to understand is the deployment of
less than 75 special operations troops, and what is known by planners
as a “six pac cell” of fighter aircraft is NOT the same as a
deployment of a Battle Group, nor a “war” make.
The Canadian Government or The Crown unlike our amerkan cousins have
the “constitutional authority” to commit the Canadian nation to war.
That has been recently clearly articulated to the Canadian public by
constitutional scholar Phillippe Legasse. What Parliament can do is
remove “confidence” in The Crown’s Government in a “vote of
non-confidence.” That could not happen to the Chretien Government
regarding deployment to Afghanistan, and it won’t happen in this
instance with the conservative majority in The Commons regarding a
limited Canadian deployment to the Middle East.
President George Bush was quite correct after 911 and the terror
attacks in New York; that the Taliban “occupied” and “failed state”
Afghanistan was the source of logistical support, command and control,
and training for the Al Quaeda war of terror against the world. The
initial defeat, and removal from control of Afghanistan was vital and
essential for the security and tranquility of the developed world. An
ISIS “caliphate,” in the Middle East, no matter how small, is a clear
and present danger to the entire world. This “occupied state,”
or“failed state” will prosecute an unending Islamic inspired war of
terror against not only the “western world,” but Arab states
“moderate” or not, as well. The security, safety, and tranquility of
Canada and Canadians are just at risk now with the emergence of an
ISIS“caliphate” no matter how large or small, as it was with the
Taliban and Al Quaeda “marriage” in Afghanistan.
One of the everlasting “legacies” of the “Trudeau the Elder’s dynasty
was Canada and successive Liberal governments cowering behind the
amerkan’s nuclear and conventional military shield, at the same time
denigrating, insulting them, opposing them, and at the same time
self-aggrandizing ourselves as “peace keepers,” and progenitors of
“world peace.” Canada failed. The United States of Amerka, NATO, the
G7 and or G20 will no longer permit that sort of sanctimonious
behavior from Canada or its government any longer. And Prime Minister
Stephen Harper, Foreign Minister John Baird , and Cabinet are fully
cognizant of that reality. Even if some editorial boards, and pundits
are not.
Justin, Trudeau “the younger” is reprising the time “honoured” liberal
mantra, and tradition of expecting the amerkans or the rest of the
world to do “the heavy lifting.” Justin Trudeau and his “butt buddy”
David Amos are telling Canadians that we can guarantee our security
and safety by expecting other nations to fight for us. That Canada can
and should attempt to guarantee Canadians safety by providing
“humanitarian aid” somewhere, and call a sitting US president a “war
criminal.” This morning Australia announced they too, were sending
tactical aircraft to eliminate the menace of an ISIS “caliphate.”
In one sense Prime Minister Harper is every bit the scoundrel Trudeau
“the elder” and Jean ‘the crook” Chretien was. Just As Trudeau, and
successive Liberal governments delighted in diminishing,
marginalizing, under funding Canadian Forces, and sending Canadian
military men and women to die with inadequate kit and modern
equipment; so too is Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Canada’s F-18s are
antiquated, poorly equipped, and ought to have been replaced five
years ago. But alas, there won’t be single RCAF fighter jock that
won’t go, or won’t want to go, to make Canada safe or safer.
My Grandfather served this country. My father served this country. My
Uncle served this country. And I have served this country. Justin
Trudeau has not served Canada in any way. Thomas Mulcair has not
served this country in any way. Liberals and so called social
democrats haven’t served this country in any way. David Amos, and
other drooling fools have not served this great nation in any way. Yet
these fools are more than prepared to ensure their, our safety to
other nations, and then criticize them for doing so.
Canada must again, now, “do our bit” to guarantee our own security,
and tranquility, but also that of the world. Canada has never before
shirked its responsibility to its citizens and that of the world.

Prime Minister Harper will not permit this country to do so now

"But Lang, defence minister McCallum's chief of staff, says military
brass were not entirely forthcoming on the issue. For instance, he
says, even McCallum initially didn't know those soldiers were helping
to plan the invasion of Iraq up to the highest levels of command,
including a Canadian general.

That general is Walt Natynczyk, now Canada's chief of defence staff,
who eight months after the invasion became deputy commander of 35,000
U.S. soldiers and other allied forces in Iraq. Lang says Natynczyk was
also part of the team of mainly senior U.S. military brass that helped
prepare for the invasion from a mobile command in Kuwait."

http://baconfat53.blogspot.com/2010/06/canada-and-united-states.html

"I remember years ago when the debate was on in Canada, about there
being weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Our American 'friends"
demanded that Canada join into "the Coalition of the Willing. American
"veterans" and sportscasters loudly denounced Canada for NOT buying
into the US policy.

At the time I was serving as a planner at NDHQ and with 24 other of my
colleagues we went to Tampa SOUCOM HQ to be involved in the planning
in the planning stages of the op....and to report to NDHQ, that would
report to the PMO upon the merits of the proposed operation. There was
never at anytime an existing target list of verified sites where there
were deployed WMD.

Coalition assets were more than sufficient for the initial strike and
invasion phase but even at that point in the planning, we were
concerned about the number of "boots on the ground" for the occupation
(and end game) stage of an operation in Iraq. We were also concerned
about the American plans for occupation plans of Iraq because they at
that stage included no contingency for a handing over of civil
authority to a vetted Iraqi government and bureaucracy.

There was no detailed plan for Iraq being "liberated" and returned to
its people...nor a thought to an eventual exit plan. This was contrary
to the lessons of Vietnam but also to current military thought, that
folks like Colin Powell and "Stuffy" Leighton and others elucidated
upon. "What's the mission" how long is the mission, what conditions
are to met before US troop can redeploy?  Prime Minister Jean Chretien
and the PMO were even at the very preliminary planning stages wary of
Canadian involvement in an Iraq operation....History would prove them
correct. The political pressure being applied on the PMO from the
George W Bush administration was onerous

American military assets were extremely overstretched, and Canadian
military assets even more so It was proposed by the PMO that Canadian
naval platforms would deploy to assist in naval quarantine operations
in the Gulf and that Canadian army assets would deploy in Afghanistan
thus permitting US army assets to redeploy for an Iraqi
operation....The PMO thought that "compromise would save Canadian
lives and liberal political capital.. and the priority of which
....not necessarily in that order. "

You can bet that I called these sneaky Yankees again today EH John
Adams? of the CSE within the DND?

YARMOUTH, Nova Scotia -- Massachusetts state police will travel to
southwestern Nova Scotia Wednesday to examine a site where Boston
mobsters may have buried their victims. Elizabeth Conrad Parent, 43,
whose father Kenneth “Bobby” Conrad has been missing since 1979,
believes he was killed by an associate of South Boston gangster James
“Whitey” Bulger and buried in Canada -- alongside other victims of
Bulger’s group.

Last month, Parent recounted to the Boston Herald that former FBI
agent John J. Connolly Jr. told her almost 20 years ago that her
father was stabbed by Bulger associate Louis R. Litif, and buried in
Nova Scotia. Parent believes her father disappeared after witnessing a
Mafia killing in the basement of a Boston bar.

The Halifax Daily News reported yesterday that four officers will fly
to Yarmouth to discuss with local Royal Canadian Mounted Police a
small parcel of land in rural Deerfield, Nova Scotia. According to
land registry reports, Litif -- who was murdered in Boston in April
1980 -- purchased a house and land in Deerfield in 1971. His widow is
still an absentee landlord of the property.

Sgt. Brian Oldford, a spokesman for the RCMP, said any potential
murder investigation would be handled locally. “We would rely heavily
on (Massachusetts police) for intelligence, but the actual homicide,
as I understand it from reading the newspaper, took place on Canadian
soil and the body’s on Canadian soil,” he said.

Oldford expects the Massachusetts investigators will be in Nova Scotia
for only one day. “It’ll just be a matter of them telling us what they
know and then getting them back on the plane,” he said.

Parent said Connolly told her in a 1983 telephone conversation “a lot
of bodies” were buried at the site.

Bulger, who is on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list, was recently
indicted on new charges alleging he was involved in 18 murders.

Could mobster arrest shed light on rumour?

The arrest of notorious mobster James “Whitey” Bulger in Santa Monica,
California, on Wednesday, June 22, has piqued the interest of the RCMP
in Yarmouth who wonder if Bulger’s arrest may eventually shed new
light on a rumoured mob graveyard here.

After being on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List and on the lam for around
16 years, the 81-year-old mob king-pin was arrested without incident
after the FBI launched some daytime television ads two days before
seeking the whereabouts of Bulger's girlfriend, Catherine Greig, with
a $100,000 reward offered. There was a $2 million reward for Bulger's
capture.

Corporal Dana Parsons, of the RCMP’s Southwest Major Crime Unit based
in Yarmouth, had not yet heard about Bulger’s arrest when contacted
Thursday morning by the Vanguard. He admitted the arrest is intriguing
in terms of the information it could yield when Bulger is questioned
by American authorities.

Bulger was wanted on charges of racketeering, 19 counts of murder,
conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering, extortion and drug
distribution.

But in these parts his name is of interest given rumours of a mob
graveyard in Yarmouth County.

In 2001, an extensive dig was held at a property located at the corner
of the Saunders Road and Mood Road. For 20 days the RCMP had the
permission to dig a 1.2-acre site where a bartender from Boston was
rumoured to be buried.

The property was turned upside-down and inside-out, and there was even
digging done in the basement of a residence on the scene, but no human
remains were found.

Cpl. Parsons notes that this was not a missing persons file in Nova
Scotia, rather it was a missing persons file originating in the United
States. Therefore it is still up to American authorities to lead any
investigation or inquiries. But this isn’t to say, he says, that if
new substantiated information comes forward that the police here
wouldn’t get involved again.

“It should be their follow-up as far as the interview of Bulger and if
he discloses that a murder occurred up here, than we would become
involved again,” Parsons says.

The man whose remains the RCMP were searching for when they carried
out the dig in October 2001 was South Boston bartender Kenneth Bobby
Conrad, who disappeared in 1979 after allegedly witnessing a mob hit.
The man’s daughter claimed that two years after her father vanished,
an FBI agent by the name of John Connelly had told her that her father
had been lured to Yarmouth County by a mob associate and murdered.

At the time of Conrad’s disappearance, the property was owned by Louis
R. Litif, who was an associate of Bulger. Conrad’s daughter said she
had been told that Litif had killed her father and buried his body at
the property. She said she was told other bodies were buried there as
well.

Getting information from Litif years later was a dead end. In 1980 he
was killed in a gangland slaying in Boston.  In 2001 his widow had
given police the permission to dig up the property. She had taken over
part ownership of the property a month before Litif was killed.

(An interesting footnote in this story is Whitey Bulger used to be an
informant for the FBI. But when it was decided in 1994 he had to be
arrested for his crimes, it was FBI agent John Connelly who had tipped
Bulger off, allowing him to escape and remain on the lam for 16 years.
Connelly is serving time for obstruction of justice.)

When the news surfaced in 2000 about a possible mob graveyard in
Yarmouth County – which led to the dig a year later – local residents
of the area said they had heard rumours about alleged mob connections
to the property in the past. So while the news was shocking, it wasn’t
necessarily surprising.

The RCMP dig was not a simple matter of the police going onto the
property with shovels. An infrared device was used to detect
variations or disturbances in the ground. A gas-powered machine with a
spike drum was used to unlock scents beneath the ground for police
dogs. An excavator was brought onto the scene. Even the Yarmouth
County Ground Search and Rescue Team conducted a hands-and-knees
search through wooded areas of the property that had not been dug up
by the excavator.

But in the end, the RCMP could only dig and search the area for which
they had permission. After a week they concluded the dig.

“It’s never been laid to rest because there has never been a resolve
to the disappearance of that body,” says Cpl. Parsons.

On the one hand, there was no body found on the property, so was it
just a rumour and therefore a waste of money and effort? Or on the
other hand, did the dig not go far enough?

Cpl. Parsons says while the RCMP here won’t be looking to lead any new
investigation into the matter, because the file originates in the
United States, he said he may contact U.S. authorities just to touch
base with them and remind them of the assistance the police here
provided in the past.

“We don’t have an open file on a missing persons, our file was an
assistance file to them to see if there was a body up here on that
property in Deerfield,” he says. “Ultimately it’s their lead and what
we would do is follow-up on anything they gave us.”

Yet while Cpl. Parsons stresses the onus would be on the American
authorities, he says ultimately in investigations of missing persons
everyone is seeking the same goal – to bring these investigations to a
successful conclusion and hopefully bring about closure for a family.

And perhaps, in this case, to also put rumours to the test, or put them to rest.

New details emerge about radio host's 1st Puerto Rico court appearance

Trevor Doyle was detained pending trial because he was deemed a 'risk

Court documents obtained by CBC News show new details of Trevor
Doyle's detention hearing on Monday in Puerto Rico.

The Fredericton radio host charged with sexual enticement of a minor
was detained pending a trial "on the basis of risk of flight and
danger to the community," said the minutes filed by the court
reporter.

According to the minutes, Doyle's defence attorney, Jesus Hernandez,
did not request conditions of release or a bail hearing but reserved
his right to reopen the detention hearing at a later date.

Doyle is a longtime host for Capital FM in Fredericton.

On Monday, he also filed a waiver of a preliminary hearing, which
means his case will go directly to trial. This does not mean an
immediate trial, however, and Doyle still has not entered a plea.

"The court approved the waiver and found probable cause as to the
charge contained in the criminal complaint," the minutes said.

his right to a preliminary hearing. (United States District Court)

The detention hearing lasted 15 minutes Monday.

Doyle was arrested on April 3 after an FBI sting operation involving
an agent posing as a 13-year-old girl. Doyle allegedly messaged the
agent on two separate apps for several days, ultimately arranging a
meeting at Pine Grove Beach in Isla Verde for oral sex.

The prosecution alleges Doyle believed he was communicating with a
13-year-old girl because the agent brought up her age multiple times.
Evidence submitted by the FBI allege he brought up her age once.
Medical conditions

As soon as he was arrested, the detention centre was advised that
Doyle suffers from anxiety, depression and high blood pressure.

Court documents posted Tuesday but signed on April 3 advised the
Metropolitan Detention Centre in Guaynabo, about 16 kilometres south
of San Juan, that Doyle "is being or has been treated and/or suffers
from" the ailments.

A spokesperson for Bell Media, which owns Capital FM, did not comment
on Doyle's legal situation but confirmed he's been suspended from his
job as host of the morning show.

The Canadian consulate in Puerto Rico has been notified of Doyle's
arrest and detention.

Liberal MP Sean Fraser changes mind, will seek re-election

Former cabinet minister announced in December he would not run again

Liberal MP and former cabinet minister Sean Fraser is cancelling his plans to retire from politics and will announce today he will seek re-election in his Nova Scotia riding of Central Nova.

CBC News first reported the news Tuesday morning and Fraser later confirmed it in an interview.

"It's an opportunity to demonstrate to my kids that when there are important fights to have, good people need to stand up to bullies," he said, in reference to the current U.S. administration.

Fraser said he made the decision Monday after a phone call from Liberal Leader Mark Carney asking him to reconsider.

Fraser announced in December he wouldn't run again because of the strain the job placed on his family life. But sources say Carney reassured Fraser they would find a way to balance his workload with his family life.

Liberal MP Sean Fraser changes mind, seeks re-election in Nova Scotia

Liberal MP and former cabinet minister Sean Fraser confirms he will seek re-election in the riding of Central Nova in Nova Scotia after he decided to step away from politics in December 2024. Fraser said he received a call from Liberal Party Leader Mark Carney about reconsidering to run and said he got assurances from Carney that he will be able to balance family life with work.

Fraser said Carney assured him that if he stayed on he would be able to spend more time with his family.

"We probably spent half an hour on the phone discussing the assurances that we could create a family-friendly environment that would allow me to serve my community without compromising my ability to be a present husband and father," he said.

Fraser and Carney are expected to appear together at an event later today in Nova Scotia where the news will be officially announced.

Asked about the news in Halifax, Carney said Fraser is an "exceptional public servant."

"I and my colleagues have wanted Sean Fraser to come back and serve Canada at this crucial time. Sean stepping up for our country ... is exceptionally good news for Canada," he said.

Fraser stepped down from the federal cabinet in December when he announced he wouldn't run again. He was the federal housing minister until then, and immigration minister before that.

The Liberals nominated a candidate to run in Central Nova last week. The nominee, Graham Murray, was the only Nova Scotia Liberal candidate absent from Carney's appearance in Halifax on Tuesday.

Fraser is not the first high-profile Liberal to change their mind about running in the upcoming election. Cabinet minister Anita Anand had said she would not run again, but changed her mind last month.

New Brunswick MP Wayne Long and Ontario MP Helena Jaczek also said they would not run again, but then reversed course.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre seized on the news to reiterate his point that a Carney Liberal government would lead to more of the same, and criticized Fraser's record on the immigration and housing files.

"He helped contribute to creating this crisis in the first place. And now Mark Carney and the Liberals say that he should be back," Poilievre told reporters in Vaughan, Ont.

The use of a "natural monopoly" as a source of extra money when wanted to pay for new generation in the service of "Trade " customers, who roll on with "no skin in the game", is just too difficult to challenge using lawyers or politicians.

That mostly gets the individual to a place, off-grid. Erik

Hi Erik,  It has been a while since I was involved in a legal battle
with Hydro, and then it was through the BCUC.  The Commission looks to
me to have been diminished in capability and mandate.  The Residential
Consumer Intervenor Association was suggested to me as a possible means
of getting standing within a larger group, but I have heard that they
are a white wash group, but it might be of interest to see where they
would go.

Two groups come to mind that might still be interested in helping get
legal and financial help with this, the Consumers Association of Canada,
and West Coast Environmental Law Association.  I'm more concerned with
the environmental impacts of Hydro and government decisions that come
out of spending so much of our money.   Groups like Dogwood might be
interested from the overall perspective.
