"He said Higgs — with 32 per cent of the popular vote in September's election — has "no mandate" to undo a Liberal moratorium on shale gas fracking."
===

Did Gallant pass a law to create his moratorium? Or just make an executive order in council? Sometimes I despair of our 'leaders' and their profound disrespect for the assembly. We need a rational policy on shale gas development in NB. One that ensures NB is properly compensated for the depletion of the asset. One that excludes the carpetbaggers and snake-oil sellers from participation in the industry. And one that sets up adequate protections for the environment and other resources.

I won't hold my breath.

Someone needs to put a muzzle on Gallant. He still cannot accept his failure to lead, his failure to produce results, his financial disaster, his responsibility in the dishonesty of his government and now he has decided to work behind the scenes to continue to cause even more linguistic divide in NB.

Does he, and the libral party, not realize that every word from his mouth causes more damage to the province, and the liberal brand.
Have they noticed that there are only three libral governments left in Canada, in three of the smallest provinces.....and each of those are dropping in polls as well.

Keep talking Brian.......and you will have a legacy alright.

A large part of the current unrest of the Anglos in NB on the issue of official bilingualism is that any time a segment of the population (including those who elected 3 PANB MLA's) suggest that the way services are delivered are less than perfect and could be stream-lined in the areas of necessity and efficiency, the Liberals' response is always "well they just don't understand the requirements". A sort of "let them eat cake" response. It certainly isn't listening to a significant part of the population.

Gallants legacy will be a province sharply divided along English/French linesIn the end he became a hero for the French and ended up nearly bankrupting the province tgo fund "pork-barrel" handouts to mainly-French ridings even when there was concensus that other work (in Anglo areas) was more urgent.Just look at Shediac 'Scoudouc- Gallants seat- all the roads are brand new and shiny; nowhere else in the province has that.
.Ultimately the more well-off Anglos will leave rather than fund forced French language laws and French handouts. That will incapacitate the tax base and then all those rich Francophones who have been sucking the governments bosom will get bored and leave. All that will be left is a broke province with a population severely dependent on government handouts.
Hopefully there is time to turn it around but both the French and the Aboriginals think they have the final say in ANY provincial decision. So we have this complicated dance involving English/French/Aboriginal representatives each saying their side is the most legit and should have full veto.( To be fair Anglos have been compromising for 50 years but French still insist we have to spend more money to stop assimilation of the FRench- as if that is the provinces fault and problem-to-solve.
Higgs will need all of his ample skills to solve this one.

Marguerite Deschamps
Marguerite Deschamps
@John O'Brien, now, not only is it the fault of the French, but of the First Nations too.

And who has most of the twin highways in New Nouveau-Brunswick all the way down to Calais, Maine, and to and past Fredericton? - The question begs the answer, I'm afraid. There were none past Shediac and there are still none past Shediac Bridge.

Fred Brewer
Fred Brewer
@Marguerite Deschamps
And meanwhile the dangerous Route 7 that connects two of New Brunswick's largest cities, remains as two lane highway. Where is the justification for that?

Tim Raworth
Tim Raworth
@Marguerite Deschamps The government has accepted criteria that is based on traffic count, that determines if a highway needs to be twinned. They did not even flow it. The Liberals could not show the evidence that twinning was needed in this area. Again, you don't know what you are talking about.

@Joseph Vacher Methinks those are the same reasons I heard when Graham won in 2006 and when Higgs and his cohorts under Alward won in 2010 and lost to Gallant in 2014 . Plus Higgs did admit that he considered crossing the floor and working for Gallant after the last election. When the NDP leader quit and his buddy the ex liberal Attorney General went work for Higgs while the wife of the former wannabe leader of the liberals ran for him as well folks were no doubt confused. Small wonder there are 6 people from different parties seated in the House today N'esy Pas?

Marguerite Deschamps
@Tim Raworth, oh yes I do! There are still people today being hired as bilingual whose French is at the same level as Blaine Higgs. In the early 1960s, this province became officially bilingual. I don't hear bilingual Anglophones who took the initiative complaining. Those who were born in 1950 were 13 years old in 1963 and probably all retired. As to all the others, the opportunity was there; all they had to do was seize it.

She had held a job with the RCMP since 1954 . The fine Lady's position was deemed to be bilingual even though she had been doing it more than competently since she became a widow of a veteran of WWII who was killed in service in the army years later when my first wife was only 6 months old. In 1970 when I graduated High School she talked me to applying to the RCMP but i was refused out of the gate because I was one inch to short. Well party # 2 now has an opportunity to get the fiscal affairs in order. It will not happen easily as the usual expectations remain. People have got to let business get going, small and big ones or we are done. Language stuff has got to get some common sense, 5 kids on one bus and 25 on another can't work anymore nor do divided schools nor do 9 student schools. Duality has to snubbed out. And how we have a nursing shortage when we produce 100s each year is mystifying and continues to have OR time shortages etc. Question is , is it a shortage or is it absenteeisms, so called sick leaves, stress crap, maternal leaves , language or what with the union.? Good luck Mr. Gallant in your future endeavors. I was surprised and quite pleased with the comment he made a couple of weeks ago regarding " Official Bilingualism", that he did not realize how many folks in the province were negatively affected by it, and that he should have done more to address their concerns...well, if he had WON the election he probably would not have made that comment, but here we are today. Now, i'm hoping his replacement will take a good long look at " Official Bilingualism", and roll up his or her sleeves, keeping in mind Mr. Gallants comment, and do something to address the concerns of the folks Mr. Gallant referred to about being negatively affected by this issue...if he/ she plays their cards right they will be a " shoe in" in the next election.

'With a heavy heart,' Brian Gallant says he'll resign as Liberal leader

Former New Brunswick premier makes announcement at a news conference Thursday morning

Former New Brunswick premier Brian Gallant, accompanied by his wife, Karine Gallant, announces his resignation as leader of the Liberal Party. (James West/Canadian Press)

Brian Gallant has announced his intention to resign as Opposition leader and leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party as soon as a new leader can be chosen.

The former premier made the announcement at a news conference at the Legislative Building on Thursday morning.

"It is with a heavy heart I will be resigning as Liberal Party leader of New Brunswick," said Gallant, whose party was diminished to 21 seats in the 49-member legislature, while the Progressive Conservatives won 22 seats.
I'm proud to say I'm leaving the province in a better state than when I became premier.- Brian Gallant, opposition leader
"It has been an absolute honour to serve as premier and leader of the Liberal Party."

Gallant said he'll stay on as leader for now to provide some stability while the party prepares to find a new leader. He did not say whether he would stay on as an MLA for Shediac Bay-Dieppe until New Brunswick's next election.

After Liberals elect new leader, Gallant said, he has "no idea what I'll do next."

Addressing bilingualism

He did make it clear he plans to speak about official bilingualism, its merits, the myths about it, and concerns New Brunswickers might have.

"As a province I think we can strengthen our social fabric and be more united than ever if we talk about this issue in a fact-based, respectful way," he said.
"I think that we can find common ground and … the more people [who] know the facts, the better informed they will be for this important discussion that we're clearly going to have as a province."

Much of Gallant's resignation announcement sounded like a campaign speech as he ran through what was accomplished during his four years as premier, although he did acknowledge there were "a few hiccups and mistakes along the way."

"I'm proud to say I'm leaving the province in a better state than when I became premier," he said.

After the Sept. 24 election, Gallant said he would try to continue governing the province.

Legislature will meet next Tuesday morning to prorogue the first session (the one in which the Liberals delivered a throne speech, introduced two bills, and were defeated). A new session with PC throne speech will begin at 1 p.m. that afternoon.

He met with Lt.-Gov. Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, and received permission to continue governing, while he and his Liberals tried to win the confidence of the legislature — with fewer seats than their main opponents.

Brian Gallant loses confidence vote

New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant lost the confidence vote in the legislature 25-23. 1:34

But the Gallant government fell Nov. 2, when 22 Progressive Conservatives and three People's Alliance MLAs voted to defeat it. Twenty Liberals and three Greens voted to keep the government alive.

As a result, Premier Blaine Higgs and his Progressive Conservatives were sworn into power last week.

On Friday, Gallant advised Higgs not to govern as if he has a majority, and he cited shale gas development as something Higgs doesn't have a mandate to resume. The Liberals had imposed a moratorium on fracking, but Higgs has said his government will allow it in areas where local people want it.

Gallant said his party wasn't perfect and he admitted he wasn't a perfect leader. But he said the Liberals increased tourism in New Brunswick, cut taxes for small businesses, grew the economy and reduced the number of job losses across the province, all while addressing the provincial deficit.

Moving forward he said the Liberal Party is the best party to grow economy, strengthen education, address health care wait-times, advance women's equality, protect the environment and cut the deficit.

Gallant became 'too jaded'

In his closing speech before the confidence vote on Nov. 2 and again at a news conference later that day, Gallant apologized for not doing a better job as premier.

He said the election result was a wake-up call and he would try to be more collaborative "no matter which position I'll be occupying."

He acknowledged that he won the leadership promising "a new approach" but became "too jaded and fell into some of the old adversarial ways of this place."

Gallant blamed the news media for covering more adversarial topics.

"Sometimes, when there's an important issue, politicians feel like they have to take on those adversarial ways to get a little bit of attention from the media," he said.

"But it's not an excuse. We all have to be mature about the roles we've been asked to play here."

Gallant's resignation means the party will have to plan a leadership campaign quickly. And with a minority PC government in power — an election could happen at any time.

Kris Austin bids farewell

On the eve of Gallant's expected resignation, People's Alliance Leader Kris Austin wished him well, but wasn't surprised by his decision.

"I figured this would be the outcome. Based on years of tradition, when a party loses an election, it's common for the leader to resign," Austin said in a statement.

"I want to thank him for his years of service to the province as its premier and I wish him well in his future."

I perform my Rituals only at night between the hours of 0.00 - 0.59 (South African time) lasting 1 hour but of course, this depends on the nature of the ritual, some rituals might take hours and can also become necessary to be performed at specials places like; flowing streams, cemeteries and other places dictated by the gods.
I do not want anyone to be under any illusions about my spells and its numerous rituals. Real and effective Voodoo is no child's play, it is expensive because, after the rituals, I will have to destroy all the materials involved by fire and the ashes scattered over a flowing stream or river.
You will get what you seek. But please understand this might take a lot of time and that individual results may vary. contact +27663492930, greatogudugu@gmail.com
