Bonjour, je suis Roger Richard candidat indépendant pour la
circonscription électorale de Kent-Nord. I am a citizen very concern
with the financial and environmental state of our province.
As you may know, the Liberal government induce us in confusion when
they say, just before the election, that we are about 67 million ahead
in the budget. In reality, we have a combine debt of 18 billions:
13.9 provincial debt plus 3.9 NB Power debt. This causes that we are
paying about 1.8 million $ a day in interest alone. Remember, we are
only 750,000 people in NB and we are not getting any younger. I do
not know about you, but I am certainly not paying one million dollars
a year in income tax. Where is the money coming from?
I am talking about smart meters as an example of our stupidity. It
should be known that they are very dangerous to our health because of
the pulsating radiation they produce. I was opposing smart meters at
the NBEUB commission matter # 375 last winter. The commission refused
smart meters but NB Power will resubmit the project after the
election. Maybe in theory higher rates of electricity on the hours of
high demand may incite people to lower their consumption. But in
practice, it is not. We only need to read what is happening in other
jurisdictions. Beside, why ignore the health effects this device is
causing on all living cells? For your information, every political
parties in NB ignores environmental damages done by smart meters.
So, I was left with two choices: either cancel my vote the 24th of
September or be an independent candidate.
NB Power has eleven directors in its board of directors. Five are
living outside of NB and, of those five, four are from the United
States! Of course, everyone is very qualify. But, could that
explains why we are producing so much electricity that we are selling
the surplus at half price to the US?
As an alternative we could replace those foreign people at the NB
power’s board, phase off Pointe Lepreau nuclear power generating
station and buy electricity from our neighbouring provinces when we
need more electricity. It even cost less to buy than to produce it.
It would not only be safer environmentally for us but also, that
electricity would come from renewable sources: water falls. But that
will certainly not happen if we continue to vote for political
parties.
We will vote Liberal again because we are afraid that Mr. Higgs will
bring back the shale gas. Essentially, we will tell the Liberals to
continue to spray our forest and us with glyphosate.
I am running as an independent because I want to give the Environment
a voice in Fredericton. I can do that because I will not have to
follow any party lines. I will be free to vote along anyone I agree
with.
Remember, the rich and powerful are overseeing us for our natural
resources and Fredericton cannot care less for Kent North.
Thank you for taking the time to listen and lets go, together, to
Fredericton to see what they are doing with our finance and
environment.
I would like to thank one of my mentors, Mr. David
Amos, for taking
me so far in this uncharted territory.

Liberals renew efforts to save fracking ban
Liberal Leader Brian Gallant proposes bill to entrench fracking moratorium
Shale
gas politics dominated New Brunswick's fractured legislature on
Wednesday, with the Liberal opposition launching a new effort to keep a
moratorium on gas development in place.
Liberal Leader Brian Gallant introduced legislation that would write the moratorium into law, making it harder for the Progressive Conservative minority government to undo it.
Gallant said he introduced the bill because it's become clear the three People's Alliance MLAs plan to vote with the PCs on the issue in Friday's throne speech vote.
Shortly after his comments, those Alliance MLAs confirmed that.
They said they'll vote against Gallant's proposed amendment to the throne speech motion. The amendment would call for the provincewide moratorium to stay in place.
They
say voting to amend the PC throne speech motion would amount to a
non-confidence vote that would bring down the Higgs government.
"The last thing New Brunswickers want for Christmas is an election," said Fredericton-York Alliance MLA Rick DeSaulniers, who promised last week to vote against any lifting of the shale gas moratorium anywhere in the province.
"I'm not going to cause an election over that issue.
"I will support the government on the throne speech because we gave our word — which is very important to me — to the lieutenant-governor that we would support the government on confidence votes."
Premier Blaine Higgs said Wednesday that while the Liberal amendment is not a confidence matter on its own, it would become one if it passed and became part of the main PC motion.
The latest exchanges on fracking come after the PCs made their own fracking move late on Tuesday.
The Tories introduced a sub-amendment to the Liberal amendment. The sub-amendment would support lifting the moratorium in the Sussex area because communities there "have demonstrated their desire to proceed with shale gas development."
Alliance Leader Kris Austin said the Sussex-only scope of that sub-amendment allows his party to support it.
"If they had put in there a provincewide lifting of the moratorium, they would have had issues with that because we would not have supported that," he said.
"Where this is specific to Sussex … we feel it would be infringing on Sussex to impose ourselves down there."
Austin favours allowing individual MLAs to vote freely on shale gas if development would take place in their ridings.
The Alliance leader said he might support Gallant's bill that would write the moratorium into law. At the moment, the ban can be lifted or modified by a cabinet regulation.
"If it relates directly to making sure MLAs have a vote on the issue, in terms of lifting the moratorium, I would support that," Austin said. "That's what we've been asking for."
The votes on the throne speech motion, the Liberal amendment and the PC sub-amendment will take place Friday morning. If the main motion passes, Higgs's new government will be able to stay in power.
The Liberals say that because Higgs did not win a majority of seats and only gained 32 per cent of the popular vote in September's election, he doesn't have a mandate to lift the shale gas moratorium.
"We are here because they are trying to govern like a majority government when they only have a minority," Gallant said.
Higgs said he has already compromised by vowing to allow development only in areas that support it.
"I'm not opening this up everywhere," he said. "I'm not even trying."
The Liberals pressed the issue in question period Wednesday, with three of the party's Moncton-area MLAs arguing that the wording of the sub-amendment would allow fracking "very near" the Turtle Creek reservoir, which supplies drinking water to Greater Moncton.
Moncton
South MLA Cathy Rogers asked for a promise that fracking wouldn't
happen there without the consent of municipal councils in Moncton,
Riverview and Dieppe — a promise PC Energy Minister Mike Holland quickly
provided.
"I can answer that simply by saying yes," he said. "Yes, we are never going to go against the wishes of the region's municipalities."
Holland later told reporters that PC legislation on shale gas would lay out how the province will establish "clear boundaries" to find out which areas consent to development.
"We are going to ensure there's a means and mechanism there [and] that we're confident we're speaking with a licence from that area," he said.
He also said that, despite the wording of the sub-amendment, the PCs aren't taking for granted that there's support in Sussex and will consult people in the area.
Meanwhile, Liberal MLA Lisa Harris accused PC Aboriginal Affairs Minister Jake Stewart of labelling Indigenous anti-fracking protesters as "eco-terrorists" in 2013.
Stewart said he was actually referring to "radical groups from other parts of the world" who came to the province for protests in Kent County and used Indigenous people as "pawns."
"I do not think First Nations people are eco-terrorists," Stewart said. "They were treated poorly in that situation and were preyed upon. Elsipogtog at the time was financially struggling and they were used in that fashion and I'm against that."
Green
MLA Kevin Arseneau, who attended several of the Kent County protests at
the time, said they reflected local opinion and that he didn't believe
Elsipogtog residents were manipulated by outside activists.
"It was a very, very, clear local battle," he said.
Coincidentally, a group of high school students from Rexton — the scene of the most dramatic confrontations involving protesters and police in 2013 — were visiting the legislature Wednesday.
When Higgs greeted them, one of the students asked him about his plans for shale gas development.
The premier told the student he believes natural gas would benefit the economy and help local businesses, "but we will do it safely and we will be sure the water is protected."
PCs introduce sub-amendment
Alliance could support Liberal bill
Liberals press the fracking issue
The Liberals say that because Higgs did not win a majority of seats and only gained 32 per cent of the popular vote in September's election, he doesn't have a mandate to lift the shale gas moratorium.
"We are here because they are trying to govern like a majority government when they only have a minority," Gallant said.
Higgs said he has already compromised by vowing to allow development only in areas that support it.
"I'm not opening this up everywhere," he said. "I'm not even trying."

'Eco-terrorist' label debated

I am a little puzzled why
Austin didn't raise a point of privilege during the speech. The
inference is not very nuanced and in this case it really isn't called
for. If New Brunswickers want rural paramedics then they will have to
put up with at least some unilingual paramedics otherwise they will have
none at all. Common sense, in the ordinary meaning, would assume some
unilingual paramedics are better than none. Very disappointing M.
Arsenault didn't apologise of his own volition.
Johnny Horton

The problem is the people of the Brockway, Sussex corners and oak hills are fine with unilingual paramedics. But someone sitting in the tracadoes and edmunstons is demanding how others will be served.

Tim Raworth
On and on it goes. The point
is there is a problem with language, duality and bilingualism in NB and
how it is handled. Based on the comments on these articles, mine
included, Don't expect everyone to agree but unless politicians are
willing to set down and honestly listen to the people directly, this
will continue onto the next generation. No more rewriting to Official
Languages Act behind closed doors with SANB the only major group in
attendance.
David Amos
@Tim Raworth Good Luck

@Lou Bell I Wholeheartedly Agree Sir
Lou Bell
Says the SANB rep while condoning what Rosa Parks fought against . Segregation still has it's pockets in NB.
David Amos
@Lou Bell Methinks when it
comes to official languages everything is political and its always about
the money Premier Ford and Andy Scheer are proving that fact in spades
today N'esy Pas?
Jane Sherrard
Isn't it time the NB
government promoted unity and stopped making laws that promote
segregation and solidarity? When building a world class education
system, if Francophone and Anglophone teachers and students were
permitted to work and learn together within their respective protected
schools, we would evolve into a prosperous province with people working
together, and not against each other.
Lou Bell
@Jane Sherrard As long as
politicians will sell their votes to segregation , nothing will change
.Segregation does not equal unity.
David Amos
@Lou Bell Methinks that
whereas not enough people care about what goes on in our parliamentary
system we get the governments we deserve. Small wonder that so many
folks don't bother to vote and most of those that do usually vote for
the colour of the coat and few months later they could not tell you who
their MP or MLA is N'esy Pas?

The Green MLA using this

he was the president of the group he was a member of. Just a other

@Joe campbell Methinks he has
proven to many people several times that he has no class whatsoever Why
else would his buddy Gallant not want him as a liberal candidate in the

Nazi reference in poor taste but doesn't break rules, Speaker decides
Green MLA Kevin Arseneau won't withdraw Nazi propaganda reference in criticism of People's Alliance
The Speaker of the New Brunswick Legislature has ruled that a Green MLA's reference to Nazi propaganda during a debate in the house was a poor choice of words but did not violate parliamentary rules.
Daniel Guitard ruled Tuesday on Kent North MLA Kevin Arseneau's use of a quotation by Adolf Hitler's propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, while criticizing the People's Alliance.
He asked Arseneau if he wanted to withdraw the words but Arseneau refused.
The famous quotation, which Arseneau used last Friday during the throne speech debate, says that with "sufficient repetition," people can be convinced "that a square is in fact a circle" because "words can be moulded" to disguise someone's real meaning.
He read the quotation while critiquing Alliance Leader Kris Austin's frequent comment about the need for "common sense" in the application of language rights in New Brunswick.
"I understand heated debate, I understand emotional debate, but in my opinion and the opinion of my caucus, he certainly overstepped," Austin said.
Guitard said he had already reviewed Arseneau's comments.
"They're not unparliamentary, but I can say as far as the choice of words, it was poor taste, and a poor choice of words."
Because the words were not unparliamentary, the Speaker could not order Arseneau to withdraw them, but he invited Arseneau to do it anyway.
After Arseneau refused, he said twice that he was not making a comparison between the Alliance and the Nazi regime in Germany.
Guitard cut him off when he tried to continue speaking.
Green Leader David Coon defended Arseneau to reporters, saying the Goebbels quotation is a well-known quotation and it's fair to use it to comment, without drawing a comparison to Nazism, on how politicians use words.
